Set in a world of magic and fantasy, Fairy Tail has a power level that is constantly in flux, with characters one-upping each other at any given moment. At the front of the charge is a cast of women who have made a name for themselves as the overall strongest not only in the series but in all anime as well.

The ladies of Fairy Tail are known for some of the most iconic scenes in the series as well as being the most dependable in a fight, often defeating the biggest threats when their friends are down and out. This list will be going through some of Fairy Tail’s strongest women whose power is only rivaled by author Hiro Mashima’s fan service of them.

Lucy Heartfilia

While not the most proficient in combat herself, Lucy has come a long way since the beginning of the series. Where previously she relied on her spirits to fight for her, she now takes fights into her own hands with her Spirit Dress, which allows her to use different abilities depending on which spirit is fighting with her.

She is also the most capable Stellar Spirit mage in the series by far, having collected 10 of 12 gold Zodiac keys and, at one point, summoned the Celestial Spirit King himself. These feats alone give her tenth place, but to make up for her fight skills, she’s also one of the smartest people in the series as well.

Juvia Lockser

Formerly known as “The Rain Woman,” Juvia was one of Phantom Lord’s Element Four and a candidate to be an S-rank mage in Fairy Tail. She is a powerful water mage whose magic makes her body impervious to physical dangers and capable of vicious attacks.

Her only downfall would be her unrelenting fanaticism with Gray Fullbuster, which causes her to let down her guard, make mistakes, and be easily tricked. However, her feelings for Gray are also a catalyst to bring out her full potential, making her someone who could beat many people further up this list.

Ultear Milkovich

Ultear is a powerful mage who created many problems as a villain in the series. One of the few people capable of using Time Magic, she once held a seat on Ishgar’s magic council, manipulated Jellal into creating the Tower of Heaven, and subdued Zeref (although he wasn’t at full power).

With incredible combat prowess and magical capacity, Ultear is placed eighth because her potential was never fully achieved. Her final sacrifice to save everyone was magnificent, but unfortunately, it was also the end of her story.

Kagura Mikazuchi

A remarkable swordswoman and mage, Kagura was known for being able to take down her enemies without even unsheathing her sword. Once fueled by anger and revenge, she rose to the top of her guild Mermaid Heel, which was known to be sixth best in the nation.

Powerful and resilient Kagura is placed in seventh for her inexperience. Though she is capable of going toe-to-toe with characters of this list ranked higher, she inevitably loses because she hasn’t fought as many strong opponents.

Minerva Orland

Having been relentlessly trained by her father since childhood, Minerva is the strongest member of the wizard guild Sabertooth. Her magic Territory can manipulate space and matter in her area of control. This allows her to teleport herself and others, change the properties of objects and control her opponent’s surroundings.

Not only that, she is a user of ancient magic, which allows her to call forth one of the Yakuma Eighteen Battle Gods. She loses out to others on this list because of her willpower and emotions, both of which are key drivers in Fairy Tail’s overall power scaling.

Mirajane Strauss

Mirajane is one of the few S-class mages, but her power level is difficult to measure because of how consistently it’s shown in the anime. Known by friend and foe alike as “Demon Mirajane,” she uses Take-over magic called Satan Soul that allows her to assume the appearance and abilities of demons.

In demon form, she is pretty much unstoppable. However, as it uses a ton of magical energy, it’s a hard form to maintain. She’d beat a majority of the women on this list anyway, but if her trauma hadn’t gotten in the way, she’d be much more powerful.

Dimaria Yesta

One of the Alvarez Empires’s Spriggan 12, Dimaria, is known as the “Warrior Queen” and one of the strongest in the country. She is the chosen vessel of Chronos, the time god, who gave her a portion of his power, so she can affect and control time. Her magic Âge Seal freezes time while still allowing her to move.

Her actions then appear to be done at super speed when time is returned to normal. It’s a near undefeatable ability, and only those with higher magical power than her (or existences that are anomalies to space and time) are unaffected by it.

Brandish μ

The members of Alvarez’s Spriggan 12 (with a few exceptions) are generally very close in power due to their magic manipulating reality in some way. Brandish’s and Dimaria’s placement could be switched depending on the situation. Known as the “Nation Destroyer,” Brandish’s magic Command T allows her to change and manipulate matter at will, changing islands into pebbles and normal-sized people into ants.

Though her magic doesn’t affect those with higher magical power, most of her fights were lost because she was too lazy to participate. You could say it’s a privilege of the strong.

Erza Scarlet

From the beginning, Erza was known to be one of the strongest in the Fairy Tail guild, having the moniker “Fairy Queen, Titania.” She uses the common Re-quip magic but uses it to change entire sets of armor rather than one weapon at a time, allowing her to adapt to a situation as needed.

There have been many unwinnable situations in the series, but Erza has always come out on top through sheer force of will. Blocking a magic cannon, single-handedly defeating 100 monsters, and destroying a meteor with one working arm. Even as Fairy Tail ended, she’s made a name for herself as one of the strongest women in anime.

Irene Belserion

Number one on this list goes to a profound member of the Spriggan 12, also known as the “Scarlet Despair.” One of the strongest mages in the world, according to some, Irene was an enchantress who’d lived for 400 years and the mother of Dragon Slayer magic.

Capable of calling meteors from space, terraforming an entire continent, and transferring her personality into another body, Irene’s only on-screen loss was against her daughter Erza and only because she chose to end her own life. She was someone truly undefeatable.
