The Triceratops can appear as either a large dinosaur to slay or a player-controlled Dominator. Since it can have such a dramatic effect on the game, learning how to make Triceratops extinct again is an important skill to have in Exoprimal.

Defeating a Triceratops is a fairly straightforward task for most players. However, defeating a Triceratops faster than your opponents can be tricky since this particular dinosaur is wonderful at wasting time. This guide will go over the different ways you can bring down this charging beast long before your opponents do.

Triceratops Weaknesses

Triceratops Weak spots in Exoprimal

The Triceratops’ weak spot is its belly. You can shoot parts of its belly from the side or behind for that sweet crit damage. Vigilant, Deadeye, and Barrage are particularly good at this since they can either hit the belly accurately or, in Barrage’s case, bounce grenades off the floor into the Triceratops. Melee suits will get the most consistent critical hits by attacking directly behind the Triceratops.

It’s possible to break the Triceratops’ horns with enough focus fire around its head, and doing so will reduce the damage Triceratops deals. However, it’s usually better to just focus fire on any part that isn’t the head and take it out as soon as possible.

If you want to defeat the Triceratops quickly though, you’ll have to take advantage of its Charge and moments where you can topple this armored dinosaur. When the Triceratops charges, its legs will glow red. Aim attacks at the legs to deal critical damage and topple the Triceratops, giving your team a damage window. When the Triceratops rears up onto its hind legs its entire body will glow red. Attacks like Deadeye’s Thrust Attack or Roadblock’s Shield Blast have a high chance to knock over a Triceratops in this state. However, be careful when this happens. A Triceratops rearing back is a sign that it’s using its Overdrive. If your team fails to knock it down during this short window, then you will be taking a lot of damage.

On that note, Roadblock is the perfect counter pick here because he can use his shield to trap Triceratops in place for a short time. To do this, hold your shield up and position yourself so that the Triceratops’ horns hit directly into the center of your shield when it charges. If you did this correctly, the Triceratops’ horns will be stuck in your shield, locking it in place for your teammates to shoot at. Be careful when you do this because it will also slowly drain your shield and lock you in place too. To break this lock, use Shield Blast to dislodge the Triceratops.

Overall Strategy

Stopping Triceratops as Roadblock in Exoprimal

If you’re playing Roadblock, make sure you taunt the Triceratops first. Once you have the Triceratops’ attention, hold up your shield and lead it into an open area far away from any bottomless pits. After that, keep your shield up and try to catch its horns. Once its horns are stuck in your shield, just hold it in place while your team damages it. If your team isn’t in position to deal damage, just Shield Blast the Triceratops to save your shield health.

As Roadblock, keep your punches and Shield Blasts to a minimum. A single hit from a Triceratops will send you flying, and if you taunted the Triceratops, this can lead to the dinosaur running far away from your team to chase after you. A mistake like this will cost your team a massive chunk of time.

Damage dealing Exofighters will want to focus on its belly whenever you get the chance and avoid shooting its head. Stay far away from the Triceratops just in case it starts using its Overdrive. Whenever the belly isn’t accessible, damaging its legs or using skills to try and hold it still are the next best things to do. Examples of useful skills that can stop the Triceratops in its tracks include Vigilant’s Frostlock, the Witch Doctor’s Neurorod, and Krieger’s Stunlock Missiles. With the right modules, these skills are capable of forcing open damage windows on the Triceratops, allowing your team to finish slaying the beast at an even faster rate.

Against a Dominator Triceratops, you’ll want to stick with the objective and defend/complete it to the best of your ability. Damage dealing Exofighters should stick close to their tanks’ shields and scatter when the shield goes down to make sure the Triceratops can’t pick up more than one player with its charge. If the Dominator is using its Overdrive, either leave the area as soon as you see the animation, or hide behind your tank and hope for the best. Ranged damage-dealing Exofighters like Barrage and Deadeye are perfect for that situation since they can stay out of the Overdrive’s range and continue damaging the Triceratops.
