Every Major Fast and Furious Character

From Dominic Toretto’s days racing on the streets of Los Angeles to flying a car through skyscrapers in Abu Dhabi to, shockingly, turning on the Fast Family in New York City, the Fast and Furious franchise has spanned 10 films (including spinoff Hobbs & Shaw) and gifted us with many, many characters.

With Fast X now out — and rumors abound that the next Fast film might not be the last, as previously stated — IGN has decided to live life, and list off characters, a quarter mile at a time, reflecting on every notable face from the 10 films so far (and the few we know will appear in the upcoming eleventh film).

Read on to see every major hero, villain, hero-turned-villain, villain-turned-hero, and (nearly) every key side character who has helped, or try to hurt, the Toretto crew along the way. (So yes, some are not quite as major as the core Fast Family.)

Spoilers obviously follow for the first nine main movies, plus Hobbs & Shaw…

Dominic Toretto

The patriarch of the Fast Family, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) is an ex-convict auto mechanic by day, street racer at night who also happens to be involved in hijackings around Los Angeles. His life takes a turn when Brian O’Conner enters the picture, and the two form a bond that transcends friendship — they become family. The American muscle-car loving racer is brother to Mia and eventual husband to Letty. Throughout the films, Dom puts his team together for various heists, revenge schemes, and more, often done in the name of family.

Over the course of nine Fast films, Dom has been pitted agaisnt his amnesiac wife, his own team (while trying to protect his secret son), and, most recently, his own never-spoken-of brother, Jakob.

(The only film in the series Dom does not appear in is 2 Fast 2 Furious.)

Brian O’Conner

An undercover cop turned full-time street racer, Brian (Paul Walker) leaves his time in law enforcement after infiltrating Dom’s gang in the first film. He invariably ends up working with the law in some capacity again and again, though, including when he briefly becomes an FBI agent in the fourth film. Brian’s allegiances remain with the Fast Family though, which includes his wife, Mia. Family is so important to Brian, however, that he ends up deciding to leave the adventurous life he’s led behind, instead retiring with Mia and their son Jack. (The character’s arc in the final film is influenced by the real-life death of actor Paul Walker, which occurred during the making of the film.)

Mia Toretto

Dom’s sister and Brian’s romantic interest, Mia (Jordana Brewster) can hold her own on the streets. As the series progresses, however, she starts to build a home life for herself, Brian, and their kids, which sidelines her from the action in the later films. As she takes more of a support role, she helps remotely after she becomes pregnant with Jack, and as their schemes become progressively more dangerous, she worries the threat that it presents to her family. That worry, and the promise of building a family, eventually leads to her, Brian, and Jack to retire from the game in Furious 7.

Mia stayed retired during The Fate of the Furious but returned in F9 to help stop her and Dom’s brother, Jakob, from gaining control of a weapons system called Project Aries.

Letty Ortiz

The love of Dom’s life, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) is a key member of Dom’s crew but was thought to be killed during Fast and Furious. She’s revealed to still be alive, however, and with amnesia no less. She’s recovered in this state by Owen Shaw, who uses her forgotten past to his benefit, turning her against the Fast Family. She returns to the Toretto crew after Dom saves her life, even though she can’t remember her time with them, only to inevitably regain her memories — including the fact that she and Dom are married.

Roman Pearce

An old friend of Brian’s, Roman (Tyrese Gibson) helps O’Conner take down Carter Verone in 2 Fast 2 Furious before becoming a longstanding member of the Fast Family. Though often reluctant, money, power, and, well, a lot of food, often convince Roman to be part of their schemes, often acting as part of a duo with Tej during the planning stages of their many adventures.

Tej Parker

Tej (Ludacris) is another friend of Brian’s who owns a garage and hosts races in Miami. He also transitions his way into the Fast Family as the tech savviest member of the team, often working remotely for the crew. Though as time has worn on, he’s proven more and more that he’s not afraid to enter a fight — when he’s not egging on Roman’s ego, that is.

Han

A lynchpin of the Fast and Furious timeline, Han (Sung Kang) is a mentor to Sean Boswell during the third film, though appears to die tragically in Tokyo Drift. Yet he returns in Fast & Furious as a member of Dom’s heist crew, resetting the clock for a few films until his supposed death is inevitably revealed as the machinations of Deckard Shaw, who kills Han in retaliation for Owen Shaw’s injuries. (He also goes by the fake alias Han Seoul-Oh, as spotted in Furious 7.)

Surprise, though! Han’s back, as of F9, revealed to still be alive, having survived the events of Tokyo Drift. It’s also discovered that Han had been recruited by Mr. Nobody before Tokyo Drift and had purposefully been in hiding, remaining “dead,” so he could protect the daughter of the creators of Project Aries.

Gisele

Initially a liaison for Arturo Braga, Gisele (Gal Gadot) helps Toretto and the crew make their way through the U.S./Mexico border in Fast & Furious. Toretto keeps her alive and out of Braga’s clutches, and she later returns to help with the Rio heist in Fast Five. She and Han develop a romance that tragically ends when she dies in Furious 6.

Luke Hobbs

Though Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) becomes an essential member of the Fast Family, he first was actually trying to hunt them down. In Fast Five, he seeks the Toretto team out after they kill a few DEA agents, but he later assists them after Hernan Reyes’ man kills his entire team. He then comes to the team for help in defeating Owen Shaw, inevitably returning the favor by assisting Toretto and the crew with stopping Deckard Shaw.

Hobbs and reformed villain/playful rival Deckard Shaw would break out of prison in The Fate of the Furious and help Dom’s team defeat Cipher. After this, they’d reluctantly become partners again to stop cybernetically-enhanced mercenary Brixton Lore from releasing a lethal pathogen across the globe.

Sean Boswell

The protagonist of Tokyo Drift, Sean (Lucas Black) transfers to a school in Tokyo after multiple run-ins with the law for his street racing in the U.S. There, he learns the ways of drifting, becoming friends with Han and eventually crosses paths with Dom after what they believe to be their mutual friend’s death.

Sean appears via flashback in Furious 7 but then comes back, in full “present day” form — with Twinkie and Earl — to help Tej and Roman launch a car into space.

Vince, Jesse, Leon

Vince, Jesse, and Leon are all part of Dom’s crew in the first film, and each meets a very different fate by the movie’s end. Jesse is gunned down by Johnny Tran, Vince moves to Rio and assists Dom and the gang during the events of Fast Five, and Leon… is presumably pretty bummed to have lost his entire crew.

Johnny Tran, Lance Nguyen

The main villain of The Fast and the Furious (and his henchman/villain — nepotism is alive and well in the organized crime world), Johnny Tran is Dom’s nemesis in the film. Eventually, Brian shoots Tran down during a chase, while Dom smashes into Lance’s dirt bike with his Charger. Neither is in particularly good shape after the film.

Hector, Edwin

Hector runs races in LA, while Edwin is a loudmouth street racer in the first film (Hector does make a brief cameo in Furious 7). But Edwin is notable for who played him — Ja Rule, who 2 Fast 2 Furious director John Singleton has said he planned to bring back for the wonderfully titled sequel. He turned the offer down, according to Singleton, and the part of Edwin was morphed into Tej, played by Ludacris, who still rides with the Fast Family today.

Agent Bilkins, Sergeant Tanner, Agent Markham

Tanner works with the LAPD, in charge of Brian’s undercover operation, while Bilkins is an FBI agent in the first and second films, who convinces Roman Pearce to help on Brian’s assignment in 2 Fast. Markham is the U.S. Customs agent in charge of the Carter Verone case in 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Monica Fuentes

Brian and Roman fall into the mix of Monica’s case, as she works undercover to take down Carter Verone in 2 Fast 2 Furious. She strikes up a brief romance with Brian, though that falls by the wayside, especially as his relationship with Mia grows. Though she’s only a key player in the second film, Monica returns for a brief post-credits scene in Fast Five to reveal Letty is not as dead as the family thinks.

Suki, Jimmy, Orange Julius, and Slap Jack

These four represent the racing scene in 2 Fast 2 Furious, most of them having some connection to Tej Parker. Jimmy is a mechanic at Tej’s garage, while the other three are part of the sequel’s first race, which reintroduces Brian in his post-law enforcement life.

Carter Verone, Enrique, and Roberto

The sequel’s drug overlord Carter Verone and his two henchmen bring Brian back into the world of law enforcement. Monica Fuentes has already been working for a year on bringing Verone down when Brian and Roman enter the picture, and it ultimately requires them, Dukes of Hazzard-style, jumping a car into Verone’s boat in order to stop him.

Neela Ezar

Neela is Sean’s love interest in Tokyo Drift who is at first with Takashi, Sean’s main rival in the film. Han’s “death” in the film leads to even more strife for the twisted love triangle, though she and Sean eventually end up together after he takes Takashi down in one final race.

Twinkie, Earl, and Reiko

All members of Han’s crew, Twinkie becomes Sean’s first friend when the Texan boy arrives in Tokyo. He introduces him and the audience to the world of drifting, while Earl and Reiko serve to fill out Han’s team.

Twinkie and Earl, with Sean, use their engineering skills, and “rocket car,” to help launch Tej and Roman into space in F9.

D.K./Takashi, Morimoto, and Uncle Kamata

Known as “Drift King,” Takashi is angered by the attention Sean pays to Neela in Tokyo Drift, while Kamata, his uncle, stirs the pot when he reveals Han has been stealing money from their illicit ventures. He goes after Han and Sean in what will be the chase during which Han seems to die at the wheel, courtesy of Deckard Shaw. (Oh, and Morimoto is mostly along for the ride in helping Takashi stop Sean and Han.)

Major/Mrs. Boswell, Clay

Sean’s mom, Mrs. Boswell, sends him to live with his Navy officer father in Tokyo after he is involved in a crash after racing fellow high school student Clay. Though his parents don’t play a huge role in his Tokyo Drift life, his dad occasionally becomes embroiled in the underworld of street racing with him. Set to Kid Rock’s “Bawitdaba,” Clay races Sean to see who is deserving of winning Clay’s girlfriend. And apparently neither really is, because they both end up crashing their cars in a housing development, which is the impetus for Sean having to move away from home and avoid possible jail time.

Tego Leo, Rico Santos, and Cara Mitha

When the series stepped back in time with Fast & Furious, it gave Dom a new crew, of which Han was a member. Tego and Rico make it along with the gang into Fast Five, while Cara, Han’s girlfriend in the fourth film, disappears in between movies, paving the way for Han and Gisele’s tragic romance. They also all appear in Los Bandeleros, the Vin Diesel-directed short film included on the home release of Fast & Furious that sets up the events of the fourth movie in the franchise.

Tego and Rico both appear in The Fate of the Furious, but only Rico shows up in F9.

Arturo Braga, Fenix Calderon

Brian and Dom head to Mexico to trap drug trafficker Arturo, first known as Ramon Campos (and he even has a body double), in the fourth Fast film, though he makes a brief cameo in Furious 6 when Brian visits him in jail to learn more about Letty. Speaking of Dom’s true love, Fenix is the person who killed Letty…until audiences and the Fast Family discovered she was alive and well. Except for the amnesia she incurs.

Agent Michael Stasiak, Agent Penning, Agent Sophie Trinh

All three FBI agents are part of the team looking to take down Arturo Braga in Fast & Furious. Only Stasiak, who has a bit of a contentious relationship with Brian, returns later in the franchise. Appearing in Furious 6, he helps sneak Brian into jail so he can confront Arturo…after he breaks Stasiak’s nose for the second time.

Stasiak shows up at the top of F9, helping the Fast Family get to fictional South American nation Montequinto to investigate the wreckage of Mr. Nobody’s plane.

Elena Neves

A Rio military police officer, Elena works with Luke Hobbs during Fast Five as he hunts Dom and Brian. But as Hobbs eventually turns, so too does Elena, who strikes up a brief romance with Dom… until Letty is revealed to still be alive. At that point, Elena suggests Dom seek her out and find his lost love, even if that means their relationship must end.

We learned in The Fate of the Furious, however, that Elena was actually pregnant right when Dom left her for back-from-the-dead Letty. Off-screen she gave birth to their son, who Cipher kidnaps and uses to turn Dom against his team. Elena was killed by Cipher’s henchman, Connor.

Hernan Reyes and Zizi

Dom and Brian have Hernan to thank for Hobbs joining their team, as the corrupt Brazilian drug lord murders Hobbs’ entire team (aside from Elena) while also attempting to kill the Fast Family for their efforts to rob him. Hobbs eventually kills Hernan out of revenge, while his henchman Zizi is killed by Brian.

Agent Wilkes, Agent Fusco, Agent Chato, Agent Macroy

These four members of Hobbs team are assisting him in tracking down Toretto and the crew in Fast Five, but they all ultimately meet their end at the hands of Hernan Reyes and provide the impetus for Hobbs to team up with the Fast Family.

Owen Shaw, Riley Hicks

A former SAS member, Shaw is attempting to steal a bunch of high-tech items. But more importantly, he’s taken Letty in during her amnesiac phase, making her a member of his villainous crew until Dom saves her. He and the rest of the Family also put an end to Shaw’s plans, leaving him battered and broken, though still alive. Hicks works with Hobbs during Furious 6, helping him, Dom, and the rest of the crew to track down Deckard Shaw. Until she’s revealed to be a double agent helping Shaw evade them, that is. Unfortunately her treachery leads to Letty ultimately shooting her with a harpoon gun and knocking her out of a moving plane. Or as the Fast and Furious franchise would call it, a Tuesday.

A recovered Owen returned in The Fate of the Furious and, along with brother Deckard, helped rescue Dom’s son from Cipher.

Jah, Vegh, Klaus

Shaw’s henchmen are essentially a bizarro-Fast Family, which is proven during Furious 6’s final action sequence as nearly every member of Dom’s crew is paired off with a similar adversary.

Cont’d…

Adolfson, Ivory, and Denlinger

…They’re not too memorable beyond that, though.

Mr. Nobody, Agent Sheppard

Kurt Russell’s character is as enigmatic as his given name suggests — an agent for a secret government team working to take down Mose Jakande and prevent God’s Eye from slipping into evil hands. He teams up with Dom (because the government always needs the help of a group of criminal street racers) to track down God’s Eye, for which he’ll help them find Deckard Shaw. His involvement earns him a bullet wound in the middle of battle, but Mr. Nobody lives to fight another day. And Mr. Nobody’s number two, Sheppard, is a casualty of Mose Jakande’s during a Furious 7 firefight. His death provides an opening for Jakande to steal God’s Eye, though Mr. Nobody takes out a few of the terrorist’s men in retaliation.

Mr. Nobody appears in Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, and F9 and knowing that he’s back in Fast X may answer the question of whether or not he survived the plane crash in F9. We’ll see.

Ramsey

The creator of God’s Eye, Ramsey is rescued by Dom’s crew and becomes a foil for the tech-savvy Tej. She’s becomes a part of the Fast Family, helping them shut God’s Eye down when it falls into the wrong hands. Ramsey has been a full-fledged member of the Fast Family since Furious 7, recently revealing, in F9, that she actually…can’t drive.

Deckard Shaw

When one Shaw brother falls, another rises to take his place in Furious 7, as Deckard Shaw seeks vengeance on the Fast Family after their battle with Owen Shaw. Deckard mercilessly hunts down the team, partnering with Mose Jakande and appearing, almost Wile E. Coyote-like, around every corner as Dom and the crew hunt down God’s Eye.

Following Furious 7, Deckard followed a redemptive path toward anti-hero status. First busting out of prison with Hobbs in The Fate of the Furious and helping Dom (with brother Owen) rescue Dom’s son from Cipher and then teaming with Hobbs again, in Hobbs & Shaw, to stop super soldier Brixton Lore, from wiping out half the Earth’s population with a virus.

Mose Jakande, Kiet

Mose, a Somali terrorist, begins working with Deckard Shaw in their combined plot to steal God’s Eye and take down the Toretto crew. He does manage to get his hands on the all-seeing program, but is less-successful in the long run — he’s killed in a detonation-by-bag-of-grenades thrown by Dom onto his helicopter, which Hobbs then shoots. As for Kiet, he battles Brian twice in the film, winning the first time and leaving Brian locked in a bus to almost fall to his doom. But he loses in the second battle, plummeting to his death.

Kara

Ronda Rousey appears during the seventh film’s Abu Dhabi sequence as a bodyguard to the Jordanian prince the team needs to rob. She’s left alive but loses in a brawl with Letty.

Mando, Safar

The supporting crew to Dom’s team in Furious 7, Mando offers a hideout to the O’Conner family while Shaw hunts them down, and Safar is the man Ramsey entrusted God’s Eye to, though he didn’t know what she was giving him. And that is exactly why he didn’t mind selling it to a Jordanian prince.

Samantha Hobbs, Jack O’Conner

The second generation of the Fast Family — Samantha is Hobbs’ daughter, who appears in Furious 7 by his bedside in the hospital. And Jack is Brian and Mia’s son, who is almost killed in an explosion and becomes a major reason why Brian decides to retire at the end of the seventh film.

Little Nobody

Little Nobody was introduced in The Fate of the Furious as Mrs. Nobody’s rookie right-hand man, and was then part of the Fast Family’s successful plan to stop Cipher from using a Russian nuclear submarine. He didn’t appear in F9 but he’ll be back for Fast X.

Cipher

Ruthless cyberterrorist Cipher is one of the saga’s leading villains, having been the main antagonist in The Fate of the Furious, where it was also revealed she was behind past villains such as Owen and Deckard Shaw, Arturo Braga, and Mose Jakande. In F9, she was used as a pawn at first but then eventually convinced aristocrat terrorist Otto to betray Jakob Toretto and side with her in a quest to use Project Aries.

You better believe she’s back for Fast X.

Magdalene “Queenie” Shaw

The matriarch of the Shaw family, Magdalene, led a life of crime for decades, one which included her sons and daughter. In The Fate of the Furious, Dom strikes a deal with her so that sons Owen and Deckard would help rescue Dom’s son from Cipher. In Hobbs & Shaw, Magdalene is in prison, though she eventually escapes and meets Dom again in London while trying to steal and expensive necklace (in F9).

Connor Rhodes

Connor was Cipher’s main henchman in The Fate and the Furious, helping her execute her plot to kidnap Dom’s ex-flame Elena and their son in order to blackmail Dom into doing whatever they want, including betraying the Fast Family. He’s also the one who murdered Elena. Like, Cipher, it’s revealed that Connor also has ties to the Shaws and Mose Jakande. Connor is killed by Dom, who breaks his neck.

Brixton Lore

Brixton Lore is the main villain in Hobbs & Shaw, having been a former MI6 who served with Deckard Shaw. Recruited by terrorist tech cult Eteon, Lore was ordered to kill Shaw but Shaw won the fight and left him for dead. Eteon saved Brixton by making him an android and in Hobbs & Shaw Lore is tasked by his bosses to unleash The Snowflake: a virus designed to eliminate half of the global population. After losing a fight with both Shaw and Luke Hobbs, Eteon puts him down permanently, remotely, with an internal kill-switch.

Hattie Shaw

Sister to Owen and Deckard, Hattie became an MI6 agent, like her brother Deckard. In Hobbs & Shaw, Hattie was given the assignment of securing the Snowflake virus. She ultimately winds up injecting herself with it to keep it from falling into Brixton Lore’s hands, making herself a moving target. Teaming with Deckard and Luke Hobbs, they defeat Brixton Lore and remove the virus from her body. She also begins to — maybe, perhaps — find a romance with Hobbs (much to Deckard’s dismay). Hattie will not be in Fast X.

Andreiko, Madam M.

Eddie Marsan played Russian scientist Andreiko in Hobbs & Shaw — a Nobel Peace Prize scientist tricked by Eteon into creating the Snowflake virus. He’s killed by Brixton Lore (but not before Andreiko took out a bunch of Brixton’s men with a flamethrower). Madam M, played by Eiza Gonzalez, is a high-profile thief and former flame of Deckard’s. She leads an all-female crew of vigilantes who ransack the mansions of Russian mobsters. Deckard, Hobbs, and Hattie track her down and ask for help with defeating Brixton and extracting the virus from Hattie.

Jonah Hobbs

Desperate for help, Hobbs, with Deckard and Hattie, returns to Samoa in Hobbs & Shaw to ask for help from his estranged family (Hobbs turned their career criminal father into the cops). Jonah is Hobbs’ brother, one of many, and an expert mechanical engineer, given the task of repairing the virus extraction machine that will save Hattie’s life.

Mateo Hobbs, Sefina Hobbs, Timo Hobbs, Kal Hobbs

Hobbs’ other brothers — Mateo (played by WWE Superstar Roman Reigns), Timo, and Kal — all rally together, at the command of matriarch Sefina, to help their brother deal with an army of Eteon troops headed their way to capture Hattie. Forming a battle plan in their Samoan village, Hobbs’ family defeats Eteon and safely removes the Snowflake virus from Hattie’s bloodstream.

Victor Locke, Dinkley

Hobbs & Shaw supporting characters, Locke and Dinkely, featured fun cameos from Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds (who costars with Dwayne Johnson in Netflix’s Red Notice) and frequent Johnson cohort Kevin Hart. Locke is Hobbs’ CIA buddy who gets Hobbs to help Deckard track down Snowflake. Dinkley is a federal air marshal, and wannabe hero, who offers to help Hobbs and Deckard after overhearing them talk about their mission on a plane. He helps them, as global fugitives, travel to Samoa.

Jakob Toretto

Never mentioned before F9, Jakob is Dom and Mia’s brother who’s been estranged from the family ever since Dom learned that their race car driver father, Jack, died during a race partially because Jakob had tampered with the car (it was actually Jack who told him to do it).

After Jack died, Dom went to prison for attacking the driver, Kenny, who his father’s car collided with. During Dom’s time away, Jakob became a successful street racer. Once Dom was released, the two of them raced and when Jakob lost he left the family for good (though still keeping in touch with Mia from time to time).

And since he’s a Toretto he, inevitably, started working for Mr. Nobody as a mercenary, all unbeknownst to Dom. In F9, Jakob betrays Mr. Nobody and joins forces with a wealthy terrorist, Otto, to take control of weapons system Project Aries. Cipher, however, comes between Jakob and Otto and convinces Otto to join with her, leaving Jakob to side with the Fast Family in the end, make amends with Dom, and then drive off to go into hiding.

Otto and Sue

Otto, a rich crime lord, convinces Jakob Toretto to betray his boss, Mr. Nobody,  and join with him to find and activate Project Aries, which is a device they could use to control the world’s computer and military systems. Near the end of F9, Otto decides to join up with Cipher instead, double-crossing Jakob. Otto, ultimately, is killed by Cipher when she fires rockets into his armored transport and Sue, Otto’s main goon, is killed by Letty when she uses a giant magnet to throw a car into him.

Elle, Leysa, Jack Toretto, and Buddy

Elle is the surviving daughter of murdered scientists parents and the key to unlocking their invention, Project Aries. Mr. Nobody recruited Han, after he survived the explosion in Tokyo Drift, and made him Elle’s protector. Leysa, played by Cardi B, is Cara Mirtha’s sister and once helped Dom and his crew pull off a heist in the Dominican Republic. She now leads an all-female paramilitary group that’s sponsored by Magdalene Shaw. Jack Toretto was the father of Dom, Jakob, and Mia and was tragically killed during a race when they were young. Buddy, played by Michael Rooker, was Jack’s mechanic and then, later, Jakob’s caregiver after Jakob was booted from the family.

Dante Reyes

Fast X’s big bad is Dante Reyes, played by Jason Mamoa. As the son of drug lord Hernan Reyes, Dante is out for revenge against Dom and the Fast Family for the money they stole from his father. Dante is out to not only hurt Dom, but also take away everything from him, including his loved ones.

Tess

Another new character introduced in Fast X is Tess, played by Brie Larson. Tess is Mr. Nobody’s daughter and an operative in The Agency. From the looks of things, she’ll be aiding the Fast Family in their latest adventure.

Aimes, Isabel

Jack Reacher star Alan Ritchson plays Aimes in Fast X, the new leader of The Agency (after Mr. Nobody). Isabel, played by The Suicide Squad’s Daniela Melchior, is a street racer from Brazil who knows Dom from long ago.

Abuelita Toretto

Finally (for now), living legend and EGOT-winner Rita Moreno joins the Fast Family as actual family, playing the grandmother of Dom, Jakob, and Mia.
