New team to develop standalone titles
Industry giant Epic Games has announced that it has established a new studio in Poland. The expansion will see the Polish arm of the Fortnite developer work on the design and development of standalone releases, suggesting that the new arm of the company will not exist as a support studio.
The studio will be head up by a new team led by staff from esoteric developer Plastic, who are renowned for their curious and stylistic array of releases such as Datura, Bound, and Linger in Shadows. In addition, Epic Games is currently hiring talent for the new team, including producers, animators, and coders.
“Our team is incredibly proud to spearhead the growth of Epic in Poland,” said Epic Games Studio Director Michal Staniszewski in an official statement. “Poland is a growing hub for the top engineering talent that we need to create amazing new gaming experiences for players around the world.”
“For over twenty years, the team from Plastic has been developing some of the most ambitious and future-facing projects in the Demoscene,” adds Hector Sanchez, Head of Epic Games Publishing. “They are an incredible group of talent who have created genre-defining experiences that sit on the bleeding edge of technological advances, pushing hardware to the limits in a beautifully artistic way. We couldn’t be more excited to have them on our team and support their growth at Epic.”
Epic Games presence in Poland increases the country’s reputation as a significant player in game development. The European territory already plays host to The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 studio CD Projekt RED, alongside name developers such as Bloober Team, Flying Wild Hog, People Can Fly, Techland, CI Games, and Teyon.
