Dune: Part Two Trailer Reveals First Look at Austin Butler’s Assassin

Austin Butler, best-known for his role as The King himself in last year’s Elvis biopic, has a much different look in Warner Bros.’ new Dune: Part Two trailer, released today.

The character, Feyd-Rautha, is a cruel and deadly assassin who was previously played by Sting in the 1984 movie adaptation of the classic science fiction novels. While Sting’s version had a much less unsettling look, Butler’s iteration seen in the trailer is bald, creepy, and quite a departure from his portrayal of the flamboyant music icon he played last year.

As in the novels, Feyd-Rautha is nephew to Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard) and brother to the equally evil Glossu Rabban (Dave Bautista), who compete with one another to succeed the Harkonnen family.

Butler joins an impressive roster of talent, which already included the likes of Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, and recently added Christoper Walken and Florence Pugh as well.

Along with the first full look at Fred-Rautha, the trailer also shows off some epic tidbits, including the classic sandworm rodeo for which Dune is known. Previously, the film’s director described the sequel as an “action-packed epic war movie,” during CinemaCon last month, and said we’d “see Paul Atreides become a leader.”

In IGN’s favorable review Dune’s first chapter, our reviewer called it “a gorgeous but imperfect epic” and “a technical wonder that spends too much time setting up for a third act that never comes.” If this trailer and the claims by the director are anything to go by, then this sequel seems poised to deliver a much different kind of movie.

Either way, Butler’s villain is sure to give me the willies.
