The Dragon Ball franchise is one of the most versatile Shonen series out there, especially due to its wide range of transformations. Here are some of the best transformations that our favorite characters achieved in the series.
A journey that started from the original Dragon Ball paved its path forward to the godly realms showcased in the Dragon Ball Super series, along with the intense battle-fueled movies. Whether it’s the villain or the main protagonist of the battle, each has managed to break their limits time and time again, with the fans in awe of their transformations.
10 Super Saiyan God
Ascending past their limits into the realm of the gods, Goku and Vegeta were first seen to acquire this godly transformation after they clashed with Beerus. The difference here, however, is that Goku attained the transformation through the God Ritual. At the same time, Vegeta was seen adorning the Super Saiyan God form after his intense training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Vegeta’s exposure to the god key also helped him attain the form, while Goku’s ritual required the infusion of energy from five righteous Saiyans.
The form itself slims down the user physically while giving a considerable power boost. The fans, however, were disappointed as the transformation didn’t receive much screen time compared to the other transformations, but overall, the Super Saiyan God transformation was the key that took our protagonists to the next level.
9 Super Saiyan Blue
The next evolution to the already godly Super Saiyan God transformation, Super Saiyan Blue, was used by Goku and Vegeta time and time again as it was now the best weapon in their arsenal. Although the number of wins attained by the form was a bit dull in comparison to the hype and grandeur of the form, its intense power was evident in the battle against the Golden Frieza.
The form was further developed and evolved by both Goku and Vegeta in their ways as Goku combined the transformation with his nostalgic Kaioken technique with an x20 multiplier against the battle with Hit. On the other hand, Vegeta broke through his limits with the Super Saiyan Blue Evolution transformation against Jiren the Grey.
8 Super Saiyan Rosé
Although exclusive to Goku Black, the Super Saiyan Rosé transformation managed to make waves in the Dragon Ball Series as well as in the community. The transformation quickly became a fan favorite as it managed to compete with both Goku and Vegeta at their max power.
The abilities that the transformation brought were also unique, including the godly scythe and the Rosé Kamehameha. Though the fans were disappointed as the transformation never had a comeback after the Goku Black arc, still, it became an amazing transformation in such a short period.
7 Legendary Super Saiyan Broly
Being one of the most hyped-up and chaotic characters, Broly’s arc development took him from being a fan-favorite non-canon character to a legendary canon character in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie. Broly, although strong in his regard, shattered the power dynamics as well as the dimension itself in his Legendary Super Saiyan form against the battle with Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta.
Although the transformation was first acquired by Kale in the Tournament of Power, Broly’s Legendary Super Saiyan form was on a whole different level, causing Goku and Vegeta to fuse ultimately.
6 Orange Piccolo
If there’s one character in the whole Dragon Ball series that desperately deserves a power-up, it is our favorite Namekian, Piccolo.
Although the name of Piccolo’s brand new transformation, Orange Piccolo, doesn’t sound all that mighty, the power he unveiled in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie certainly left the fans in awe.
Gained through a wish by Shenron, Piccolo got his potential unlocked, which led the Namekian to transform into Orange Piccolo against Cell Max.
5 Super Full Power Jiren
As ominous as the name, Jiren was already a force to reckon with before he awakened the Super Full Power transformation towards the end of the Tournament of Power.
The transformation exerts a fiery aura of its own that manages to keep Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku on his toes. Although defeated in the end, the transformation shook the arena and the Gods with the highly anticipated battle for the universes between Super Full Power Jiren and Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku.
4 Beast Gohan
We all remember the spectacular and decisive battle between Perfect Cell and Super Saiyan 2 Gohan. Well, history repeated itself in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie, with Beast Gohan making a jaw-dropping entrance towards the film’s latter half.
The transformation is unlike anything the community has seen before. With crimson red eyes and big hair in the shade of light gray, reminding a bit of Ultra Instinct, the Beast Gohan transformation managed to withstand a full power punch from Cell Max. It ended the battle with his Special Beam cannon, a devastating move he picked up from his master, Piccolo.
3 Black Frieza
If there’s one villain in the Dragon Ball franchise that always manages to leave their mark, it’s the Emperor Lord Frieza.
While Frieza has always been known for his insane limits, it wasn’t until the battle with Gas that Frieza finally utilized his monstrous potential and showcased his Black Frieza transformation. The transformation itself adorns a wondrous black color in contrast to his Golden Frieza transformation. The fact that he one-shotted both Goku and Vegeta at their newest transformations shows just how much of a menace Black Frieza is.
2 Ultra Ego Vegeta
The Prince of all Saiyans, Vegeta, has always been striving to surpass his rival, Goku. Whether it was the original Super Saiyan transformation or its godly evolutions, Vegeta was always one-upped by Goku.
Finally, as Goku was seen tapping into the power of angels, Vegeta took it upon himself and decided to harness the power of destruction energy, which led to the birth of Ultra-Ego Vegeta. The form is so destructive that enduring damage just makes Ultra Ego Vegeta even stronger.
1 Ultra Instinct Goku
The Saiyan raised on Earth, Goku, was finally seen tapping into a power that his Master Whis was trying to instill in him all along. Ultra Instinct was a form that shocked the masses in the Tournament of Power during the historical battle between Goku and Jiren.
Although not at its full potential initially, Goku managed to transition from Ultra Instinct Omen to the Mastered Ultra Instinct transformation quickly. The form was seen to be a force to reckon with against the likes of Jiren, Moro, and Gas at his full power in the latest chapters.
