Diablo 4: 10 Best Elixirs And How To Craft Them

There are many different consumables in Diablo 4, from potions and elixirs to various caches that drop materials. Elixirs are special due to the fact that you can craft most of them with ingredients collected from the open world. They also always give you a nice 5% XP boost, in addition to any other effects.

Unfortunately, as of the time of this listing, some elixirs cannot be crafted, and can only be found on random drops. These are most often found by opening Helltide chests or completing Nightmare dungeons. But they aren’t incredibly rare, and can definitely be worth grinding out if you’re planning to delve into high-tier dungeons.

10 Elixir Of Cold Resist

Each elemental damage type has its own elixir to guard against it. But Diablo 4 doesn’t really have dungeon themes based on particular damage types. Champions and Elites often deal multiple different types of damage on their own. Since cold damage is the most debilitating due to its Slow and Frozen effects, increasing resistance to it is generally better than the other elements.

Weak Elixirs of Cold Resist can be crafted at level 15, with some Gallowvine and Biteberry. Higher tiers require higher character level, as well as Paletongue, Angelbreath, and Fiend Roses. Unfortunately, the higher-tier elixirs for single resistances do not scale well for higher character levels. Most other elixir types are better for the late game.

9 Acrobatics Elixir

Using this elixir will decrease the cooldown of your Evade ability by a significant amount for 30 minutes. Every class build, and especially those focused on dealing damage, can benefit from Evading more frequently. Bosses in Diablo 4 often have some brutal attacks with particularly wide AOE, and dodging away is usually the best strategy.

Weak Acrobatics Elixirs can be crafted at level 35, with some Gallowvine and Angelbreath. Higher tiers need Crushed Beast Bones and Demon’s Hearts, while the strongest one also needs Fiend Roses. But although this elixir can certainly help keep you alive during tough fights, it won’t really help you end them any quicker.

8 Crushing Elixir

If you’re playing as a Barbarian or Druid and stacking up Overpower damage, then this is the elixir for you. Even the lowest tier Crushing Elixir provides a very noticeable 20% Overpower damage boost. But this one is still pretty low on the list, since only those two classes really make use of Overpower.

The Weak version of this elixir can be crafted at level 25, with Gallowvine and Howler Moss. Paletongue is needed for the middle tiers, while Angelbreath and Fiend Roses are required for the strongest Crushing Elixirs. Just make sure that you’ll be triggering Overpower enough for them to be worth it.

7 Elixir Of Magic Resist

Although this elixir grants less protection for specific damage types than the single-resistance elixirs, it’s much better all around. The Elixir of Magic Resist grants 20% resistance to each of the five types: Cold, Fire, Lightning, Poison, and Shadow. It can also be found as early as level 36.

The bad news is that this elixir cannot be crafted as of the current patch. But the good news is that they seem to drop far more often than many other elixir types. There’s also only one tier of Magic Resist elixir, none weaker or stronger. So while it provides a very nice defensive boost early on, its usefulness wanes as you level up.

6 Third Eye Elixir

Dodging in Diablo 4 is not the same as using the Evade ability. Instead, the Dodge stat simply provides a passive chance for enemy attacks to completely miss you. And so stacking up your Dodge can be pretty effective for defensive purposes, especially in PvP or when fighting bosses with large area attacks.

One of the great things about this elixir is that it’s available as soon as level 10, for just a few Gallowvine and Howler Moss. Higher tiers need Crushed Beast Bones, Angelbreath, and finally Fiend Roses. But to make the most of this elixir you really need to stack your Dodge effect from other sources.

5 Precision Elixir

This elixir is fantastic for most DPS roles because it provides excellent bonuses to both Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage. Some builds revolve specifically around Critical Strikes, and so this elixir is ideal for them in particular. The Elixir of Cruelty may give a higher Critical Strike Chance, but the combined damage bonus from this one makes it even better.

You’ll need to reach level 36 and collect some Gallowvine and Blightshade to craft the first Precision Elixir. Higher tiers will take Paletongue, Grave Dust, Angelbreath, and lastly Fiend Roses. Yet there are still a few elixirs that are quite a bit more useful than this one.

4 Iron Barb Elixir

For the ultimate defensive character build, stacking up Iron Barb Elixirs is the way to go. These give a nice chunk of bonus armor, but more importantly, you’ll get a huge amount of Thorns. Enemies will virtually throw themselves at your feet if you build this stat up enough, making it almost unfair for melee fighters.

Astoundingly, this elixir is available as early as level 5, for only a few Gallowvine and Biteberry each. Only for the third tier will you also need Crushed Beast Bones, and then Angelbreath and Fiend Roses for higher tiers. The only major downside to this elixir is that you’ll need to be able to take damage in order to utilize Thorns. So glass cannon types won’t have as much fun with this, but the armor does help a ton.

3 Vampirism Elixir

This elixir is restricted to the mid-to-late game for good reason. Using a Vampirism Elixir will make you heal for a set % of your Maximum Life each and every time you deal direct damage to an enemy. Characters with large AOE attacks or rapid bursts of damage can become virtually immortal while using these.

The first Vampirism Elixir becomes available once you hit level 40, but you won’t be able to craft them. There’s no recipe for any Vampirism Elixirs as of the time of this listing. Your best chance to find them is by opening Helltide chests, which makes them particularly difficult to store up.

2 Assault Elixir

The best Diablo 4 elixir that you can craft is without a doubt the Assault Elixir. Instead of boosting fancy stats, this one simply increases your Attack Speed. The first tier gives a measly 7% bonus, but the highest grants a whopping 20% Attack Speed buff. Unsurprisingly, this can help out any kind of build tremendously but certainly helps DPS roles a bit more.

You only need to reach level 20 for the first-tier Assault Elixir, which takes Gallowvine and Lifesbane. But higher tiers require substantially higher character level. They’ll also need Crushed Beast Bones and Paletongue, followed by Angelbreath and Fiend Roses.

1 Expertise Elixir

This elixir will change your game no matter what character or build you use. Reducing all your resource costs by 20% may not seem significant from using an ability just one time, or for just one fight. But as you grind out Nightmare dungeons and other difficult endgame content, this effect becomes more and more pronounced over time.

Although you cannot craft Expertise Elixirs, they’re also not super rare compared to the others that are only found from random drops. You can also start finding these at level 36, long before most players clear the main story. Just be sure to save them for when you think you’ll need them the most, since like all other elixirs they only last 30 minutes.
