Deus Ex Franchise Has a New Title in Early Development at Eidos Montreal

Deus Ex may be getting a new instalment in the series from Eidos Montreal. The studio is also working on a new IP and collaborating with Xbox to co-develop games such as Fable.

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reported that Embracer Group is shutting down Onoma, which is the company rebranded from Square Enix Montreal just a month ago. Embracer Group acquired Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal, and a “catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 back-catalogue games from Square Enix Holdings” for $300 million in May.

An Embracer representative confirmed to the outlet that Onoma is closing and this would impact around 200 employees.

Jason Schreier also reported that Eidos Montreal “remains intact” and has cancelled the Stranger-Things-inspired “kids on bikes” game. The studio is now working on a new IP that is “recently rescoped.” The new Deus Ex game is reported to be in “very very early” development. Eidos Montreal is also in “co-dev partnerships” with Xbox for titles including Fable.

Embracer Group has become one of the biggest names in the video games industry. This is because it owns 120 internal studios, 230 games in development, and 850 IPs. To know more, check out IGN’s article explaining what exactly is Embracer Group and its thirty-year history.

The Deus Ex series is set during the mid 21st century. It focuses on the struggle between factions in the shadows who wish to control the world. It includes dystopian themes and real-world mythologies. The series has a total of six games starting with 2000’s Deus Ex and 2016’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
