Students will get to learn Indian folk dances, Indian classical vocal, western and instrumental music. Besides art, other initiatives include classes on coding, computers, Photoshop, Book club, Calligraphy, Oration, foreign and Indian languages, Yoga, Photography, Radio Jockeying and more.
Speaking to
Education Times, JP Dalal, lecturer from the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi government, says, “This initiative will bring in a culture of co-curricular activities in the government schools. Co-curricular activities are equally significant part of education. It will be a game-changer for government school students as it will enhance their personality and inculcate a competitive spirit. In addition to this, the Educational Vocational Guidance Cell (EVGC) would be instrumental in assisting the students to identify their choice of co-curricular activity domain.”
Subedar Yadav, Vice Principal, Government Boys Senior Secondary School, B(AH)-Block, Shalimar Bagh, Delhi, says, “Engaging government school students in extra-curricular activities will boost their confidence which would also have an affirmative impact on their academics in the long run. As per the infrastructure that we have in our schools, we propose to start sports, dance activities, Yoga and Fine Arts at our school. For the same, I also held a meeting with the in-charge of co-curricular activities in our school and directed him to find as to which extra-curricular activities students prefer.”
It wouldn’t be possible to hold these Hobby Hubs in the double shift schools until the merging of shifts takes place which by itself is a difficult challenge, further adds Yadav.
