As per the admission circular shared by the Directorate of Education (DoE), the school websites will upload the first list of selected candidates on February 4. The second list will be released on February 21, and a subsequent list, if required, will be announced on March 15.
The admission process will conclude on March 31. As per DoE order, it is mandatory for schools to charge Rs 25 for the application form. The purchase of the school prospectus by the parents will be optional. The Directorate has fixed an upper age limit of 4, 5, and 6 years as of March 31, 2022, for admission to nursery, kindergarten and Class 1, respectively. The minimum age for admission in these classes is 3, 4, and 5 years as of March 31, 2022, respectively.

Academic session 2021-22 had the lowest admissions under the Economically Weaker Section/Disadvantaged (EWS/DG) category in private schools, data shows. There were 21,699 candidates admitted in nursery, KG and Class I despite the seats allotted being less than the previous years.

According to experts, this year the number of vacant seats is estimated to be close to 50,000. Since the process shifted online in 2016-17, this could be the lowest admission done under the category. In 2015-16, when the process was offline, 31,571 admissions were done, according to an affidavit submitted in Delhi High Court by Directorate of Education (DoE).

In the 2021-22 academic session, DoE conducted a draw of lots for just about 33,000 seats, out of which 21,699 admissions were made. In all, 2,058 private recognised unaided schools participated in the online admission process, out of which 1,515 were recognised by DoE and 543 under the control of the municipal corporations. DoE had received about 1,26,061 applications for admissions under the category.

In 2020-21, the draw of lots was conducted for approximately 52,400 seats, out of which around 30,000 admissions were done. This meant that close to 20,000 seats would have been carried forward to the next session.

For the first time in 2016-17, when admissions were centralised and conducted online, there were around 1,159 schools with 28,135 seats and 19,000 admissions done till November. After this, the number of seats have been increasing. In 2017-18, following two draws of lots, 23,979 admissions took place out of 1,13,991 applications. In 2018-19, the seats jumped to 47,421 and about 31,000 students were admitted.
