The MCU is bringing in some more Deadpool alumni.
According to Deadline, Stefan Kapicic and Morena Baccarin are set to reprise their roles as Colossus and Vanessa, marking the newest cast additions to the upcoming Deadpool 3. Alongside Kapicic and Baccarin, it was previously announced that Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams would be returning as Dopinder and Blind Al.
The casting of Kapicic in the film means that Colossus will officially be the third X-Men character to be featured in the MCU. The first time we saw an X-Men mutant was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Patrick Stewart briefly returned as Professor X. Hugh Jackman, who we initally thought would never don the X-Men uniform again after his death in Logan, will be making his triumphant return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, too.
The Crown star Emma Corrin has previously been cast to play the movie’s villain, and Matthew Macfadyen of Succession fame will also star in an unknown role.
The upcoming Deadpool movie will once again star Ryan Reynolds as the merc with a mouth, and it will serve as his formal introduction to the MCU. Previously, all of the X-Men and Deadpool movies were not connected to the MCU because of rights conflicts, but, after Disney bought 21st Century Fox in 2019, the floodgates to the mutant world have opened.
Now, Disney owns the rights to the characters from both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four franchises, granting Marvel boundless potential for its future.
The future of the MCU’s X-Men is largely unknown, as lips are being kept tight about what Deadpool 3 will have in store. We do know, though, that the film is being directed by Shawn Levy, who is known for his work in Free Guy, The Adam Project, and Real Steel. The writers behind the original Deadpool movies, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, are returning to write the script alongside Zeb Wells.
