“I wasn’t thinking anything to be honest. I was just waiting for the loose balls, because even if it’s the first ball, I’m going to hit it.

“I knew where Shivam is going to bowl because we have played for four-five years now, so I knew exactly where he is going to bowl to me. So I was ready for it and with my instincts I just went for it,” Shaw told Star Sports.

But Mavi had his revenge after the game as he jokingly grabbed Shaw’s neck during the post-match presentation ceremony. The IPL’s Instagram account even posted a video of the two as they shared a light moment post the one-sided clash.

“Once the match is completed, friendship takes over,” IPL captioned the post.

Shaw smashed 82 runs off 41 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes to help DC gun down the target of 155 in just 16.3 overs. He added 132 runs in 13.4 overs with fellow opener Shikhar Dhawan (46 off 47 balls) to lay a solid foundation for their victory.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Capitals had done well to restrict Kolkata Knight Riders to 154 for 6 in 20 overs despite a late blitz (45 from 27 balls) from Andre Russell. Spinners Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav picked up a couple of wickets each for DC while Avesh Khan and Marcus Stoinis got one each.

The 2020 finalists, who moved over Royal Challengers Bangalore to occupy the second spot on the points table after their 5th win of the season, will next face Punjab Kings in the second-leg of the Northern Derby in Ahmedabad on May 2.
