Daredevil: Born Again and The Penguin Will Be on Hold for the Duration of the Writers’ Strike

Production for Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again and Max’s DC series The Penguin have been put on hold indefinitely amid the ongoing writers’ strike.

IGN has confirmed with sources close to the productions that neither show will continue filming until the strike is resolved, as both have previously shut down multiple times as writers and supporters hit the picket lines. Deadline first broke the news of the indefinite hold.

Daredevil: Born Again is slated to premiere on Disney+ sometime next year. The first season will reportedly consist of 18 episodes, a whopping number compared to other MCU series, which usually run for less than 10 episodes per season. Charlie Cox will reprise his role as the titular character with Vincent D’Onofrio returning as Kingpin, and he’s confirmed that a second season is already planned.

The Penguin is being developed for the newly renamed Max and is a spinoff of the 2022 DC film The Batman, taking place one week after the events of the film. The series, which will have Colin Farrell return to star, is set to premiere on Max sometime next year and will consist of eight episodes.

Daredevil: Born Again and The Penguin are just two of many shows being impacted by the writers’ strike, along with Severance, Stranger Things, and Game of Thrones spinoff The Hedge Knight, among others. Films have also been impacted, with Disney announcing yesterday that it has delayed the release dates of its MCU films Blade and Thunderbolts, which we previously reported on production work being paused due to the ongoing strikes.
