Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt RED VP Believes the Launch Was Not as Bad as it Looked

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the talk of the town right now as CD Projekt RED, gears up for the launch of its highly anticipated expansion. Ahead of the release, Michał Platkow-Gilewski, CDPR VP of PR has revealed some interesting details of the journey before the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, and the player reception on launch day.

In an interview with GameIndustry.Biz, Michał Platkow-Gilewski revealed how they were still basking in the glory after the enormous success of The Witcher 3 when the studio announced Cyberpunk 2077. The hype levels were at an all-time high when the one and only Keanu Reeves appeared for the game’s presentation to announce that he was going to be a character in the game too.

Then came the launch day, where all things went awry for CDPR. Cyberpunk 2077 is considered as one of the biggest launch fails in all of gaming, but Platkow-Gilewski does not agree. Platkow-Gilewski stated that he believes Cyberpunk 2077’s “launch was way better than it was received” and “it became a cool thing” to dislike the game at launch.

He added that the Polish studio became “hero to zero real fast” and it was not one of the best moments in its history. However, the studio was sure that the “game is great” and will be able to improve and rebuild over time, which did take some time, but it ended up getting there. Platkow-Gilewski concluded by stating,”I don’t believe we were ever broken.”

What do you think, was Cyberpunk 2077’s launch really that bad, or was it just a “cool thing” to hate on it?
