HYDERABAD: Members of Congress and NSUI on Monday met education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and urged her to ensure that JNTU and Osmania University conducted examinations in online mode only keeping in view the risk of Covid-19 infection to the students.
Two delegations, each led by Telangana Congress senior vice-president Aamer javeed and NSUI state president Balmoori Venkat respectively met the education minister and explained to her that the universities were all set to conduct examinations in the offline mode from Wednesday amidst fears among lakhs of students and their parents of being infected with Coronavirus.
“A majority of the students are yet to be vaccinated. The student community is afraid of visiting examination centres as many of them have lost their loved ones to the pandemic.
When University College of Engineering and other institutions are able to conduct examinations online, surely the government can make the same for other affiliated colleges as well,” Aamer Javeed told reporters after meeting the education minister.
Stating that several educational institutions are conducting examinations in online mode in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh too, the Congress leader said the minister assured them to look into their representation seriously but hastened to add that the government needs to consider the interests of students from rural areas too as not all of them may be having access to online resources.
The minister also spoke to Telangana State Council of Higher Education chairman T Papi Reddy ) and Collegiate and Technical Education commissioner Navin Mittal and asked them to look into the issue of conducting examinations online for undergraduate students of Osmania University and JNTU.
“If nothing else works out, we urged the government to promote the undergraduate students on the lines of CBSE, ICSE and SSC students. These are unprecedented times and exceptions must be made to save lives”, added Aamer Javeed.
