Marvel Comics made waves ten years ago when The Superior Spider-Man saw Doctor Octopus’ mind take over Peter Parker’s body. Now Marvel is revisiting that controversial status quo with a new Superior Spider-Man series.
Marvel made the announcement at the Diamond Comics retailer’s luncheon at San Diego Comic-Con, revealing that the new series spins out of the pages of Dan Slott and Mark Bagley’s Spider-Man series. Slott and Bagley will also helm the new volume of Superior Spider-Man, which debuts in November 2023 after an opening one-shot called Superior Spider-man Returns #1 in October.
The new series is set in the present-day Marvel Universe rather than flashing back to the era of the original, though it revolves around a new villain with ties to Spider-Man’s superior days. This villain will rise up to take revenge on both Peter Parker and Otto Octavius, which somehow leads to the return of the Superior Spider-Man.
The Superior Spider-Man #1 will be released on November 15.
Also announced at the retailer’s luncheon is the news that Batman artist Greg Capullo is making his return to Marvel. Its unclear whether Capullo will be handling interior art for any Marvel books in the immediate future, but he will be drawing several covers. First, check out Capullo’s cover for Wolverine #37, due out on September 20:
Capullo also handled the cover for Deadpool: Seven Slaughters #1, a one-shot anthology issue featuring seven new tales from creators who have worked wth Deadpool in the past. Check out the cover below:
Deadpool: Seven Slaughters #1 will be released on November 15.
Elsewhere at Comic-Con, DC and Legendary revealed a crossover comic called Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, and Andy Samberg and Joe Trohman are joining forces for Holy Roller. You can also brush up on everything announced at SDCC so far.
