Social networking platform Clubhouse is reportedly working on a new way to invite users to audio rooms on its app. As per screenshots shared by researcher Jane Munchum Wong, the new feature, called “Waves”, is focused on the social side of Clubhouse.
This new feature will allow users to wave at friends and invite them to chat. One can simply tap at the button similar to the hand in Clubhouse’s logo to wave and if the other user replies back, Clubhouse creates a separate room for the users to talk. The company hasn’t made any official statement about the new feature yet.
Clubhouse also rolled out the spatial audio support for its iOS app last month (August). This feature aims to provide a new level of depth to the app as it positions audio of speakers on call into a 3D space around the listener’s heads and it makes them feel like a part of a room full of people. As per the company, this feature will soon be released on Android devices as well.
In July, the audio chat app also signed a deal with TED to expand its content pool by bringing exclusive content to the platform.
Released last year, Clubhouse gained popularity in the early months of COVID-19 pandemic. The platform recorded a significant growth when celebrities such as Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk joined the wagon but it looks like the app is losing its charm in the India market. In a latest report, Sensor Tower shows that from a high of 5.9 million app downloads across Apple Store and Play Store in June, Clubhouse downloads dropped to 558,000 in India in August.
This new feature update may help Clubhouse to unveil a more casual side of the platform that encourages one to use it like just another way to hangout online.
