Chinese Officials Catch Two Men Trying To Smuggle Nvidia GPUs Along With Live Lobsters Into the Country

Customs officials in China have recently arrested two men in Hong Kong for trying to smuggle Nvidia GPUs and over 600 lbs of live lobsters into the country, and no we’re not making this up.

Hong Kong customs officers said last month, as reported by PCMag, that they seized “about 280 kilograms of unmanifested live lobsters and 70 pieces of unmanifested high-value computer display cards” from a car declared empty at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port.

Hong Kong Customs said, “A male driver and a male passenger, aged 37 and 51 respectively, both suspected to be connected with the case were subsequently arrested.” As per the report, they were looking to offload the Nvidia GPUs and lobsters in Macau.

Old Nvidia GPUs

Interestingly, it was Nvidia Quadro K2200 GPUs that the suspects were trying to smuggle. These are old graphic cards that can hardly serve the purpose of modern gaming or crypto mining.

The customs officials said that the market value of these components and lobsters is “about $600,000” (likely Hong Kong Dollars). The two suspects are facing up to seven years in prison and a maximum fine of $2 million if found guilty.

Trend continues

Customs officials in China have previously caught several other interesting individuals who have tried to smuggle CPUs in and out of the country.

One time, it was a woman who pretended to be pregnant and hid 200 Alder Lake CPUs and 9 iPhones inside a prosthetic belly. There was also a man who was trying to smuggle 239 Intel Raptor Lake CPUs by taping them all over his body.
