Chainsaw Man Vol. 6 Cover Featuring Reze Gets Censored

It is no secret that Tatsuki Fujimoto’s hit manga Chainsaw Man has graphic violence and provocative imagery. Fans are accustomed to its controversial content, and it shouldn’t be too shocking when you read that the manga’s cover of a volume was censored in Indonesia.

M&C, a publisher under the Kompas Gramedia Group, is responsible for Chainsaw Man’s release in Indonesia. As spotted by ComicBook.com, the upcoming release of Volume 6, however, required revisions to comply with Indonesian censorship laws.

The original cover of Chainsaw Man volume six depicts Reze, a key character, fully naked (the sensitive parts of the body are hidden with clever positioning of the arms and legs, however). The character’s devil form is visible in the background, while she is shown in the foreground in her human form. The explicit nudity, however, would not be acceptable in Indonesia, so M&C commissioned new artwork with Reze wearing her usual blouse-skirt combo from the manga.

The censored artwork, as shown in the tweet, looks quite well done and natural, and it barely differs from the original. It is impressive how the M&C team managed to revise the artwork without compromising its quality.

Censorship in anime and manga is complicated, with different regions having varying rules on appropriate content. However, this case is certainly better than having a huge spot of blur whenever a character appears on screen in an anime.

That being said, fortunately, Chainsaw Man Volume 6 is available in India without any changes made to its cover.
