At CES 2023, Asus made a bunch of reveals about the upcoming updated models under its Republic of Gaming (ROG) brand. Gaming laptops in the ROG Flow, ROG Zephyrus, ROG Strix, and also Asus’ TUF Gaming line-up all got refreshes for the new year.
ROG Zephyrus: Duo 16, M16, G16, G14
The ROG Zephyrus series is more portable and features laptops with thin and light designs. The 2023 ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 has AMD Ryzen 9 processors with Nvidia RTX laptop GPUs. The display is also a QHD mini-LED with 240Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the first 16” laptop with AniMe Matrix is the ROG Zephyrus M16. It has a 145W TGP, featuring a 16:10 display with 240Hz refresh rate. The ROG Zephyrus G16 and G14 have displays of up to 500 nits brightness.
ROG Strix: Scar 16/18, Scar 17, Strix G17
The ROG Strix series focuses on performance gaming, is targeted towards competitive gamers. The Scar 16/18 features Intel processors with TDP up to 65W paired with Nvidia RTX GPUs with max TGP of 175W. The 2023 models have bigger displays with 16:10 aspect ratios. The mini-LED displays have 240Hz refresh rate with 3ms response time and 1100 nits of peak brightness. The 2023 ROG Scar 17 and Strix G17 come with AMD Ryzen 9 CPUs with TDP up to 65W in Manual mode and Nvidia GPUs.
Asus TUF Gaming: F15/F17, A15/17, A16 Advantage Edition
Coming to the TUF Gaming series, the robust military-grade laptops have up to 140W graphics power and similarly feature up to 16:10 240Hz QHD displays. They also include Thunderbolt 4, 100W Type-C charging, DDR5-4800MHz RAM, and MUX Switch.
The TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition has a Ryzen 9 processor and Radeon RDNA3 graphics with max TGP of 120W. It has AAA features such as the MUX Switch which is also available in other TUF models, but also comes with Smart Access Graphics and SmartShift. Four exhaust vents, 84-blade Arc Flow Fans, and seven heatpipes will cool the system. This model also comes with a built-in HD camera.
ROG Intelligent Cooling System – what is it?
When it comes to heat dissipation, the ROG Intelligent Cooling system makes use of Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal, which reduces laptop CPU temperatures up to 10 degrees Celsius. Seven heatpipes cover the CPU, GPU, VRM, and VRAM along with a full-width heatsink that dissipates more heat with ultra dense fins. The vapor chamber covers more area for efficient heat removal. For airflow, the ROG line-up has dust filters, AAS Plus 2.0, anti-dust tunnels 2.0, and Arc Flow Fans.
