Captain Marvel: Marvel Comics Reveals Carol Danvers’ Bold New Costume

With The Marvels hitting theaters in November, it should come as no surprise that Marvel Comics is gearing up for a relaunch of the monthly Captain Marvel series. But this time, Carol Danvers will be rocking a whole new look.

The new volume of Captain Marvel is written by Alyssa Wong (Doctor Aphra) and drawn by Jan Bazaldua (Red Goblin), with cover art by Stephen Segovia. The costume itself was designed by Jen Bartel and is derived from her Carol costume design for this year’s X-Men: Hellfire Gala special. Check out the new suit below:

Carol’s new costume shares certain elements in common with Brie Larson’s updated Captain Marvel costume in The Marvels. This new suit is also a sleeker and more functional take on the classic look, complete with the rolled-up sleeves.

The new series pits Carol against a powerful villain bent on the complete annihilation of the Marvel omniverse. An imprisoned Carol will have to join forces with a mysterious new ally if she’s going to stand a chance of stopping this overwhelming threat.

“I’m so excited to be writing Captain Marvel!” Wong said in Marvel’s press release. “Carol is such an iconic character with a rich history, and I can’t wait to add to her story. It’s an honor to work with Jan and I hope everyone enjoys what we’ve got coming!”

“Captain Marvel is one of my favorite female characters, that’s why I’m very excited to draw her,” Bazaldua added. “I have always seen her as a very self-confident woman with nothing she cannot face, and not just because she has superpowers, but because she has inner strength. That’s what I really enjoy about her and why I really appreciate this opportunity!”

Captain Marvel #1 will be released on October 25, 2023.

In other comics news, Robert Kirkman’s Void Rivals turned out to be the launching point for a new Transformers/G.I. Joe shared universe, and legendary Marvel artist John Romita, Sr. has passed away.
