Capitec IT ‘glitch’ leaves clients in a panic with no salaries

Some Capitec Bank clients were left in a panic on Tuesday morning when the bank’s online banking app failed to reflect the payment of April salaries.

The realisation left many of the JSE-listed financial services provider’s customers disgruntled, with some taking to social media to express their frustrations.

Capitec said in a short statement that the bank’s IT team has resolved the issue.

“Capitec’s IT team worked quickly to resolve the issue that clients experienced on its app early on Tuesday morning, 25 April. Although there was a slight delay in balance updates, all card payments and debit orders were not affected and clients can now continue using the app,” Capitec said.

This is not the first App-related incident that has left Capitec customers in a panic.

In early August 2022, the bank’s customers were unable to use Capitec’s mobile banking application, USSD and internet banking services for almost two days due to what the bank termed as “infrastructural problems” within the central servers that support its banking channels.

Capitec did not clarify how many customers had been impacted by the latest malfunction, but it did offer an apology for the inconvenience.
