Can Popcorn Box Sizes At Movie Halls Be Deceptive? Viral Video Explains

Going out for a movie at a cinema hall is something we all cherish, especially in the post-pandemic era. Bingeing on popcorn and sipping on fizzy drinks while watching our favourite flicks is an activity we truly miss these days. Popcorn is usually served in three different sizes – small, medium and large. However, did you know that popcorn sizes can actually be deceptive? A blogger took to social media to explain how movie halls could actually be serving the same quantity of popcorn even in different sized containers. Wondering how? Take a look:

The video was originally shared by user @thatcoolguy25597, aka video creator June Long. It soon made its way to multiple social media platforms, including YouTube and Twitter.

In the short clip, we see long as a customer at the movie hall’s snack counter. He shows three sizes of popcorn available – a junior bag, a medium bucket and a large bucket. The pretend customer then asks for the junior bag priced at $7.35. Dissatisfied with the quantity of popcorn in them, the customer asks for the medium bucket instead. Then, we see Long transferring the entire quantity of popcorn from the junior bag into the medium bucket, and surprisingly, it fills up completely.

The cost for the medium bucket was $8.44, almost $1.09 dollars more than the junior size. Internet users were surprised to see that the quantity of popcorn in both was exactly the same, just the packaging and way of it being served was different.

YouTube users reacted to the shocking video about the deceptive popcorn. “This is why I always sneak my own snacks in,” wrote one while another said, “I never buy anything from the concession stand anyway.”
