As a kill-based mode, Eruption is coming to next season’s Iron Banner in Destiny 2, favoring those who were not happy with the objective-based Rift mode during the current season.
In the latest version of Bungie’s TWAB post, the developers officially introduced a brand new multiplayer PvP mode coming to Iron Banner called Eruption. While the core of the mode sounds like Clash as you earn points for your team by getting kills, there is something special about Eruption that makes it stand out.
Kill streak will play a big role in Eruption. As you get more consecutive kills in the game, you gain boosts for yourself and your teammates, though you become more visible to the opponents on the map and inside the match.
Once you get 2 consecutive kills without dying in Eruption, you become “Surging,” which causes your armor to start glowing lightly and increases your visibility to opponents. When you are Surging, you earn 10% Super energy as well as 20% grenade, melee, and class energy for each kill. Every kill in this state scores 3 points for your team.
Now, if you manage to get 5 consecutive kills without dying, you become “Primed”. In this state, you will earn 12% Super and 5% grenade, melee, and class energy, while your teammates will also gain 5% Super and 10% grenade, melee, and class energy because of you.
However, getting Primed will start a Hunt on your team and the Primed player. When you are Primed, your armor starts to glow brighter than ever, and every opponent on the map will be aware of your location. After getting Primed, a 15-second timer will start ticking on your screen, and you need to get a kill to reset the timer. Once the timer ends, you will be dead and your streaks will be reset, which ends the Hunt on your team.
According to Bungie, more than one player can be Primed at a time, which is the reason why Eruption could be a super chaotic game mode in Destiny 2, especially for those who are looking for becoming a killing machine in Iron Banner.
Destiny 2 Season 18 will be available on August 23 this year.
