Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is reportedly discontinuing its prepaid broadband service. According to a report by Kerala Telecom, the service will be stopped across all telecom circles in the country. Currently, BSNL offers prepaid broadband services only in the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL). As per the report, BSNL has directed all telecom circles to migrate all existing prepaid DSL broadband customers to postpaid DSL broadband.
BSNL prepaid broadband service offers unlimited high speed broadband internet access to the customers. Other advantages of the prepaid broadband includes mobility, control on internet charges, sharing of DSL Broadband connections and more. The telco’s prepaid broadband plans start from Rs 200 and go up to Rs 3,000.
Why is BSNL discontinuing its prepaid broadband service?
As per the Kerala Telecom report, the customer base in the prepaid broadband segment is very small. It is due to this reason that BSNL has decided to close the service and migrate existing prepaid broadband customers to postpaid services.
What happens to the prepaid account balance?
The existing prepaid account balance of the existing customers will be credited into his/her postpaid account. During the migration from prepaid broadband service to postpaid broadband service, customers will have the choice to opt for BSNL Bharat Fiber (FTTH) or Bharat AirFiber (BAF) connection as DSL broadband connections are having limitations in the maximum download and upload speed.
BSNL announces special offer for migrating landline connections to Bharat Fiber (FTTH)
The report says that BSNL has introduced a special discount scheme for existing landline customers to ensure smooth migration to BSNL FTTH. As part of the scheme, landline customers can avail maximum discount of Rs 600 while migrating to Bharat Fiber.
Further, they will be able to retain their existing landline number while upgrading their old BSNL telephone connection to Bharat Fiber. To retain a landline number on BSNL FTTH, one needs to ask for the same landline number at the time of submitting the application form.
