Blue Beetle Trailer Shows DC’s Lighter Side While Poking Fun at Batman

DC has finally revealed a proper look at its upcoming superhero film Blue Beetle thanks to a lengthy new trailer that dropped today.

Released this morningl, the nearly three-minute long trailer lets fans see Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, also known as Blue Beetle.

“Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it,” reads the first official plot synposis. “As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab.”

The trailer shows what happens afterwards, as the Scarab essentially takes over Reyes and sends him on a chaotic journey into space and through a bus. We also get to see Susan Sarandon as the villanous Victoria Kord.

Blue Beetle will be one of the final entries in the DC Extended Universe film franchise before new co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran reset the universe in The Flash.

The film was originally planned to be a HBO Max exclusive before DC announced it would instead be coming to theatres on August 18 this year. Despite the relatively steady stream of announcements though, fans had previously seen very little of the film, with DC only showing a poster and some concept art.
