The anticipation for Overwatch 2 is at an all time high and with the Beta version of the game coming out, the players cannot wait to try out the sequel to their beloved game. Overwatch 2 developers, Blizzard has been working on revamping the characters to better suit the 5v5 gameplay style for the sequel. The two recent characters that they have reworked on are Orisa and Doomfist.
Orisa Overwatch 2 Rework
Orisa’s rework consists of making the character more offensive in the sequel, as she seemed to be lacking in brawling and toe-to-toe engagements in the previous game. The goal of the developers with this rework was to make her a more engaging character that can push through the enemy lines. For that reason, Orisa has received a health upgrade and armour upgrade to make her more resistant to enemy attacks.
Her offensive capabilities have been upgraded too, making her primary attack shoot larger projectiles, which shrink as more distance is covered. The damage of this attack is highest when she is close to the enemies. The ammo and reload of her attack has also been removed, now the character will deal with a overheating system. Her ammo will never be empty, instead the weapon will overheat when used too frequently, for which the player will have to wait for 3 seconds before using it again.
Her secondary attack, the Energy Javelin has received an upgrade too, now the weapon stuns the enemy and pushes them back when hit. The weapon works best when the enemy is caught between the Javelin and a wall. Another ability that has been added is the Javelin Spin, this allows her to block herself from incoming projectiles and also increases her forward speed.
Her Fortify ability has also been enhanced to make her a bit more resilient in battle. This upgrade provides 125 extra health, giving her increased survivability in team fights. When the ability is active, the user will also see a reduction of heat generated by 50%, allowing her to user her primary attack for a longer time before it overheats.
Her abilities such as Protective Barrier, Halt and Supercharger have been removed, but a version of Halt has been incorporated in her new Ultimate move. The new Ultimate move is called the ‘Terra Surge’, it enables all the upgrades received during Fortify and pulls in nearby enemies while charging up an area-of-effect attack. All of these changes have been made to make Orisa a stronger Tank in the now changed 5v5 battle system.
Doomfist Overwatch 2 Rework
Doomfist was already an offensive beast, but the rework has now made him a more defensive character too. First change that players will realise is that Doomfist is now a tank and his health has been increased from 250 to 450 making him more resistant to enemy attacks.
His Handcannon ability will work more or less in the same way, with some slight tweaks here and there. The change that players will observe is that the developers have reduced the damage per pellet from 6 to 5, but Ammo Recovery has been increased to once every 0.4 seconds, making the sacrifice to damage for faster reload times.
Powerblock is the latest core ability that has been added to his arsenal. With this ability, Doomfist enters a defensive stance that reduces all damage taken from the front by 90%. Moreover, Doomfist’s gauntlet gets charged according to the attacks he blocks through Powerblock. This charge then acts as a buff in Doomfist’s other ability, Rocket Punch.
Rocket Punch’s damage, knockback radius, travel speed, and distance are increased according to the charge the gauntlet gathers. This ability makes his attacking and defensive combos lethal. Through the Rocket Punch the player can knock back enemies and even stun them for 1 second if they are knocked into a wall.
His next ability that has received an upgrade is Seismic Toss, it will now allow Doomfist to launch in the air and land with destruction over the enemies, just like Winston’s Leap. When Doomfist lands on top or near the enemies, he creates a shockwave that damages and slows enemies down.
Now for Doomfist’s Ultimate Attack, Meteor Strike, the ability has a faster cast time and a new utility now. The attacks overall damage has been reduced, but the enemies that are caught in the centre will take the brunt of the attack. The attack first knocked enemies back when hit, now it will slow them down instead. Other than that, his Uppercut ability has now been removed.
