Bleach: 10 Strongest Female Characters

Bleach is one of the most influential Shonen Jump series of all time, and while many others in the genre lack proper writing and representation of female characters, Bleach has been praised for it. Tite Kubo’s writing for his female characters presents them as strong warriors first and love interests last.

Many of these characters have contributed greatly to important battles, plot progression, or even Ichigo Kurosaki’s own growth as a fighter, one of them being responsible for Ichigo’s involvement in the first place. Kubo doesn’t shy away from making his female fighters compelling yet exciting to watch in the series. Out of the massive cast, these are the strongest female characters in all of Bleach.

10 Senjumaru Shutara

Senjumaru is a member of the powerful Squad Zero, the one with the vital duty of protecting the Soul King. And Senjumaru has the peculiar power to manipulate any piece of cloth in her surroundings. It allows her to either use it for offense or go as far as to use it to recreate the backdrops of the Soul King Palace to trick enemies, such as the Schutzstaffel, with whom she and the others of Squad Zero fight in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc.

9 Bambietta Basterbine

Bambiette is Sternritter [E] – The Explode, a powerful member of the Wandenreich, Ywhach’s Quincy army in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc. Her schrift, The Explode, allows her to shoot deadly orbs of reishi that create massive explosions on contact. Her Vollstandig allows her to maximize the output of these orbs while also gaining the ability to fly, basically carpet bombing the battlefield by herself. While her battle with Sajin Komamura is impressive, she did end up losing, so she left a bit to be desired.

8 Tier Harribel

Tier was the Tercera Espada in Sousuke Aizen’s Arrancar Army. Since Aizen’s defeat, she’s become the Queen of Hueco Mundo, leading Hollows into a more peaceful lifestyle. As a Vasto Lorde level Espada, she is incredibly strong, proving impossible to defeat by Toushiro Hitsugaya even with the help of Vizards Lisa Yadomaru, and Hiyori Sarugaki.

With her Resurreccion, Tiburon, she can attack with massive water-based attacks that cover massive areas and can also perform precise and deadly attacks. Tier just didn’t have enough chances to show off her power.

7 Giselle Gewelle

Giselle posed a massive problem for the Gotei Thirteen with her Schrift: Z – The Zombie. Giselle can turn anyone into a mindless zombie or a semi-conscious one by splattering them with her blood. Giselle can heal herself and her allies by using pieces of flesh from corpses. She can also remotely control all her zombies and make them do anything, from activating their special abilities to taking their own life. Anyone can be turned into one of her undead army, even captain-level soul reapers or fellow quinces.

6 Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck

Nelliel or Nell Tu may seem like a small child, but her real form is that of former Tercera Espada, with an immense power that dwarfs most of her peers. Nelliel’s Resurreccion, Gamuza, turns her into a powerful centaur equipped with a massive spear. Her cero and overall fighting ability humiliated the Quinto Espada, Nnoitra Gilga, who was just completely wiping the floor with a Bankai-form Ichigo. Nelliel is by far one of the strongest Arrancar, considering it took two Espadas’ dirty tricks to strip her of her power.

5 Rukia Kuchiki

The co-protagonist of the story and the first character Tite Kubo created. Rukia’s growth is easily seen throughout the story; she was the first to kill an Espada, and then in the Thousand-Year Blood War, she one-shotted Sternritter F – The Fear As Nodt, in his Vollstandig form using her incredibly powerful bankai: Hakka No Togame.

Rukia’s bankai isn’t ice manipulation like Hitsugaya’s, but rather sub-zero temperatures, the power of flash freeze, which is so deadly for her opponent that it can also be dangerous for her.

4 Yoruichi Shihoin

The former captain of Squad Two and one of the strongest Soul Reapers in history. Yoruichi mainly fights using her extremely powerful Shunpo; she doesn’t even use her zanpakutou. By her sheer physical prowess and ability, she dominates most enemies she fights.

Yoruichi is also responsible for making the powers of Orihime and Chad flourish and, most notably, allowing Ichigo to attain bankai in a record time of three days. Yoruichi’s Flash God Black Cat Warrior Princess lets her attain absurd levels of speed and power.

3 Retsu Unohana

Besides being the best medic in the Soul Society, Unohana is also the First Kenpachi, the strongest Soul Reaper of her generation. She is an extremely powerful and skilled fighter, an absolute master of the sword. During her fight with Zaraki, who has been completely dominating all his opponents except, of course, Yhwach, she completely destroys with no effort for most of the fight, killing him multiple times before bringing him from the brink of death to continue fighting. Besides her impressive showing, she’s still behind the top two.

2 Aura Michibane

Aura is one of the most powerful Fullbringers. While lacking a specific power like Shukuro Tsukishima or Kugo Ginjo, she possesses immense spiritual power and all the Fullbring abilities she has at magnified levels. Aura can become intangible, allowing her to pass through solid objects, form a nitrogen barrier to protect herself, heal any injury on herself, and even decapitate. She can also create elemental dragons using the moisture in the atmosphere, with a similar strength to that of Sosuke Aizen’s Hado 99, but there’s only one character whose powers surpass her.

1 Orihime Inoue

Orihime’s not simply a healer, as explained by Sousuke Aizen; her healing is rather a reality-warping power, the rejection of unfortunate events. Any kind of injury, even lethal ones or lost limbs, Orihime can restore in a matter of seconds. But her Santen Kesshun creates a powerful shield that, by the end of the series, could withstand some of Yhwach’s attacks. Orihime was trained by Yoruichi, Urahara, and even Squad Thirteen. Her abilities have been acknowledged by Aizen and Ywhach, two of the strongest beings in Bleach.
