Big Mouth: Nick Kroll’s Popular Animated Series Ending With Season 8

Netflix has greenlit the eighth and final season of Nick Kroll’s popular adult animated comedy series Big Mouth.

The announcement comes ahead of the premiere of the show’s seventh season, which is still in production. Season 7 will premiere later this year, while Season 8 will launch in 2024. This will maake Big Mouth as the longest-running animated series on Netflix outside of its Kids and Family Programming.

“If you would have told adolescent Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg that middle school would take 8 years to finish, they would have been like ‘Yeah, that sounds about right. This seems like it will never end,” Kroll, who served as executive producer and voice actor for Nick Birch, Maury the Hormone Monster, Lola Skumpy, and other characters in Big Mouth, said in a statement.

Billy Wee, Netflix’s director of adult animation, added, “Big Mouth is a towering achievement in animated comedy that will make Netflix history for its longevity. We are thrilled that we still have two more hilarious seasons to share with fans before this brilliant coming-of-age story reaches its conclusion.”

Big Mouth will be Netflix's longest-running animated series when it ends with Season 8 in 2024.

A fierce exploration of adolescence

Big Mouth is based on Kroll and Goldberg’s middle school years in suburban New York, with the characters navigating the roller coaster of puberty and subsequent adolescence with their raging Hormone Monsters by their side. The show strikes the balance between comedy and drama while openly covering a range of topics affecting middle school-aged kids that adult viewers can reflect on, from human sexuality to menstruation to mental health to feminism.

Human Resources, a spin-off of Big Mouth that focuses on the office life of the Hormone Monsters, will also end with season two, but its storylines will be connected to the last two seasons of the main show.
