For the FPS community, Battlefield 2042 has been synonymous with the terms: disappointment, failure, unfinished, unpolished…. this could go on and on. In an earlier article, we wrote about the fans’ clash against developer DICE and publisher EA, rallying to strike back against both companies.
A petition from the Battlefield 2042 community has quickly gaining traction, shedding flak on developer DICE and publisher EA as players demand recompense for the “shoddy, unfinished AAA” title.
The petition went viral. Upset fans and players ensured that the petition crossed its goal of 100,000 signatures. Angry fans want the $70 they spent on the game as they claim that EA and DICE swindled them by not releasing the game with the features that they advertised.
NEWS: More than 100.000 people have signed a #Battlefield2042 refund petition on https://t.co/wbX9ryeEFC, and it’s still growing at a fast rate.https://t.co/ZlmRw0hrlY

It’s worth noting that in spite of player complaints, the relevant refund policies for each of these platforms are pretty clear:
- Sony and Microsoft both offer a two-week refund window.
- For PlayStation players, however, that window shuts down as soon as you start your download, unless the content is “faulty” and “unplayable”.
- Xbox is a little more lenient, offering refunds in “games in which you haven’t accumulated a significant amount of play time.”
- EA’s refund window is, unfortunately, only open for 24 hours, that can be stretched to 72 hours if your issues stem from an inability to play due to circumstances beyond your control.
- While the petition cites refunds on Steam, Valve’s two-hour/two-week policy seems pretty concrete, and refunds outside that window seem to be down to the whims of customer service representatives.
Previously, EA has admitted that Battlefield 2042 was generally a disappointment. However, the company also stated that they were “fully committed” to improving Battlefield 2042, and developers EA and DICE have promised a number of updates over the next few months, such as improved gunplay, visuals and better player rewards.
Gamers are upset: they were lied to and swindled. Battlefield 2042 did not live up to the expectations EA had set down for players and now their actions look like quick money-grabs. In return, players got an unpolished, broken AAA game. This should EA a lesson on sticking to the true meaning of their franchises instead of chasing passing trends.
It’ll be remarkable to see whether EA actually responds to this pressure from Battlefield 2042 players. Will they give in or fake out?
