After spending plenty of time in Early Access, Baldur’s Gate 3 is finally ready to launch in full on PC. Baldur’s Gate 3 version 1.0 has an August 3 release date on platforms like Steam. Sadly, however, the game won’t be available at midnight, but rather 4pm BST UK time. According to developer Larian, it’s not possible to pre-load Baldur’s Gate 3 version 1.0, because Steam doesn’t allow pre-loading for Early Access games. Larian explains more: “Unfortunately we’re unable to make Baldur’s Gate 3 available for pre-load — Steam doesn’t support pre-load for Early Access titles because switching to pre-load would break the game for people currently playing Early Access.”
Speaking of Early Access users, Larian warns players to delete their save files and remove any mods.
Failure to do so may result in unexpected conflicts with the new Baldur’s Gate 3 download files.
“For Baldur’s Gate 3 players with existing Early Access saves, we ask that prior to August 3, launch the game, and delete all save files to avoid unintended conflicts at launch,” Larian tweets. “Also, remove any mods and ensure they do not automatically re-download.
“We recommend players with Early Access installed uninstall the game after deleting their save files.
“This will reduce the risk of file conflicts when the final game downloads, and should mean more playing, and no troubleshooting!”
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a fantasy role-playing game set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons.
While the Early Access version contained the first act of the story and a selection of classes and races, version 1.0 adds the second and third act, plus all the playable characters.
“Gather your party and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power,” reads the official description.
“Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a mind flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil.”
The game costs £49.99 at launch, and is even playable on Steam Deck. A PS5 version will be available in early September, followed by Xbox Series X/S and Mac releases at a later date.
