Bad Bunny most-streamed artist on Spotify globally for second year in a row, with 9.1bn streams – Music Business Worldwide

Puerto Rican Reggaeton star Bad Bunny has been named as the most-streamed artist in the world on Spotify for the second year in a row.

Bad Bunny has received over 9.1 billion streams in 2021 so far, achieving that tally without having released a new album this year.

The artist’s previous album, El Último Tour Del Mundo (Rimas Entertainment), was released in November 2020.

Last year, he had received over 8.3 billion streams by December 1, when Spotify announces its end of year Wrapped campaign, which highlights the top artists, songs, and albums on the platform globally.

Bad Bunny is followed by Taylor Swift as the second-most streamed artist in the world on the platform.

BTS was the third-most streamed artist on the platform, thanks to their hit single Butter.

Drake, who released Certified Lover Boy in September, and Justin Bieber, whose album Justice was released in 2021, take spots four and five, respectively.

The top song of 2021 globally on Spotify is Olivia Rodrigo’s drivers license, which achieved over 1.1 billion streams.

Lil Nas X’s viral MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) comes in at second place.

The Kid LAROI, with his Justin Bieber collaboration STAY takes third place.

The fourth spot sees Olivia Rodrigoonce again, this time with good 4 u, and the fifth most streamed song is Dua Lipa’s Levitating (feat. DaBaby).

Olivia Rodrigo also scored the top album of 2021 globally on Spotify, with debut album SOUR.

Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia ranks second, with Justin Bieber’s Justice, Ed Sheeran’s =, and Doja Cat’s Planet Her coming in third, fourth, and fifth.

In the US, the most streamed artist in 2021 was Drake, followed by Taylor Swift, Juice WRLD, Kanye West and Bad Bunny.

Meanwhile, coming out of its first full year as a Spotify exclusive, The Joe Rogan Experience remains the number-one podcast on Spotify globally.

It is followed by Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, which also became exclusive to Spotify in 2021.

True crime podcast Crime JunkieTED Talks Daily, and The Daily round out the list of the world’s most listened to podcasts on the platform.


Spotify’s global Premium Subscriber base grew to 172 million in Q3 (ended September 30).

That was up 19% year-on-year, and up by 4%, or 7 million subscribers, on the 165m that SPOT counted at the end of the prior quarter (Q2 2021).

The company’s total global Monthly Active Users, (MAUs), meanwhile, grew 19% year-on-year to 381m in Q3 2021 and by 4% compared to the previous quarter (Q2 2021) when the platform counted 365m MAUs.Music Business Worldwide
