Attack on Titan Manga’s Malaysian Censorship Goes Viral in Japan

The Malaysian censorship of the Attack on Titan manga has gone viral on Japanese Twitter.

A tweet showcasing a panel from the Malaysian release of Attack on Titan has viewed nearly 19 million times, and received 175,000 likes.

“The modified Malaysian version of the Attack on Titan single volume is so hilarious that I’ve been laughing non-stop,” reads the caption.

Take a look at the image below, which shows Titans wearing pants:

This odd way of censorship comes via Malaysian magazine Kreko, and pictures of the censorship made the rounds on the internet in early 2021.

However, it appears that the image that went viral in Japan, which showcases the Rumbling, is actually an edit. According to this Reddit post from two years ago, the magazine was discontinued before the manga’s event showed in the image even took place.

Even though the image going viral is old and likely a fan edit, the magazine did carry this censorship of Titans wearing pants in previous chapters. The Female Titans were wearing more than just pants, such as in these examples:

In a somewhat similar story, Chainsawman Volume 6’s cover featuring Reze was censored in Indonesia.
