Aster to provide free liver transplant services to 10 underprivileged Yemeni patientsMumbai: Aster MIMS and Aster Medcity have signed an agreement with the Yemen Embassy to provide free liver transplant services to ten underprivileged Yemeni patients.

This partnership was made official in the presence of HE Abdulmalik Abdullah Al-Eryani, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen, and Dr Anes Hasan, Medical Counsellor of the Yemen Embassy in India, formally signing the agreement in Delhi.

As part of the agreement, Aster will facilitate liver transplants for patients suffering from chronic liver disease. The funds for their treatment would be borne by Dr Moopen’s Foundation and other charity organisations. The embassy will identify and endorse these patients’ financial status and recommend them to Aster for liver transplant. The complete treatment cost will be borne by Aster. Patients just have to bear their travel and logistics expenses during their stay in India. Apart from this, Aster will also provide a special discounted package for other patients from Yemen requiring liver transplants.

Commenting on the initiative, Farhan Yasin, Regional Director, Aster Hospitals Kerala and Oman, said, “As per WHO, in Yemen there is one doctor available for 100,000 patients. In order to establish quality patient care, the need of the hour is to get into a sustainable partnership model and offer quality healthcare services at an affordable cost to patients. We have identified liver transplants as a pressing need that needs to be immediately addressed.”

Dr Hasan further added, “With our partnership with Aster MIMS and Aster Medcity, we are confident of offering Yemenis quality care in liver transplants. While this is a significant boost for our citizens, we also hope the partnership leads to boosting the local economy by means of travel and spending in this enhancing city.”
