Ashok Kumar Beniwal, who was recently seen in Aashram 3, shares excerpts from his journey so far

What prominent TV shows have you done so far?

I have done prominent roles in the shows Draupadi and Koi Toh Hoga Apna. I have also been a part of shows like Surag, Khoj, C. I. D and Crime Patrol during the initial years of my career.

Character actors are getting better opportunities these days, do you agree?

OTT and some good YouTube channels have opened a new market, so work has increased for everyone. One more plus point is that the subjects are realistic and biographies have been in trend, so character actors are getting good opportunities.

You have done films, TV and web series; what’s the major difference you find in these three mediums?

Films are and will always create larger-than-life feelings. They touched our dreamy world, while TV has become like a family member. Films and TV influence the audience in a big way. On the other hand, OTT is not censored so it’s able to showcase the real face of our society.

Talking about your recent release, how has been the response for Aashram 3?

I got so many calls and messages from industry friends, who appreciated my work. I am so thankful for the blessings that I am getting.

How was it working with Bobby Deol and director Prakash Jha?

In Aashram 3, I played the role of the judge who takes the initiative in Pammi’s matter. The experience of working with Bobby Deol and director Prakash Jha was fantastic. Prakash ji guided me and gave me full freedom to portray the judge’s character.

What are the changes that you have seen in the industry over the years?

Digitalisation and professionalism are two major changes experienced by the industry in the last decade. Now films are more story-oriented. Kashmir Files, RRR and KGF 2’s grand success proved that a good storyline and great production quality can overpower stardom.

Do you feel working in a daily soap is more tiresome than films and web series?

Daily soaps are telecast four to five days a week. So, the shooting for them is faster. The case is different for OTT.

A lot of actors are now preferring OTT. What do you have to say about this?

In general, for creative satisfaction, any good actor will choose to work on OTT or films. Still, there are really good shows on TV as well.
