As per the rumour mills, Apple was expected to announce something big related to ‘mixed reality’. Various online rumours suggested that the tech giant could unveil a new OS based on AR and VR. But all this turned out be a speculation as the company didn’t announce anything around mixed reality. However, a new report suggests that the company may launch its mixed reality headset in 2023.
According to noted Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to launch its first mixed reality headset in January 2023. Along with this headset, the tech giant is also tipped to release toolkit units shipping 2-4 weeks after the said event.
Kuo also adds that the company may start pre-orders for the device from Q2, 2023 and the open sales are likely to start by WWDC 2023. Kuo mentioned that the ongoing COVID lockdowns in China and Shanghai compelled Apple to backtrack the development and launch of its mixed reality headset. Kuo also feels that the device will enter its EVT (Engineering Validation Test) stage later this year.
ARKit, which is Apple’s AR platform, was launched in 2017 to enable developers to create for iPhones and iPads.
At WWDC 2022, Apple didn’t launch an AR/VR headset nor did it talk elaborately about either tech. But there were enough glimpses — in the world of AR. The Home app has been redesigned and has a lot of AR influence. Live Text will get video support and once again will rely on AR to deliver accurate results.
