Apple to charge you more for battery replacements: How it could impact you and the environment | Digit

According to a report published by MacRumors, Apple is all set to increase the price of replacing your out-of-warranty battery. This price hike will apply to all Apple iPhone models that are older than the iPhone 14. So, if you hadn’t purchased a new Apple iPhone last year, chances are that you may have to do so this year. this year if the battery conks off and isn’t covered by warranty. Apple is also planning to increase the battery replacement prices for Mac and iPad products. 

Apple is increasing the price of battery replacements starting March 1

According to Apple, the price of replacing batteries that are out of warranty will increase starting March 1, 2023. This price increase will apply to Apple iPhone 12 series and Apple iPhone 13 series, along with other iPhone models as well. The price is said to increase by $20 (around ₹1,655.45). At this point, Apple charges around $69 (which is around ₹5,794.58) for any battery replacement services rendered for Apple iPhone models. This price, however, comes from an estimation calculator widget on the brand’s website. 

This price hike will end up impacting customers who do not have AppleCare+ or AppleCare subscriptions for their devices. This is because if you have AppleCare+, you don’t have to pay anything for the battery replacement if the battery health has depleted by over 80%. 

Apple is also increasing the price of battery replacements for MacBook and iPad

The prices of replacing out-of-warranty batteries for iPad and Mac are also going to increase.  MacBook Pro battery prices will increase by $50 (around ₹4,138.62) while MacBook Air battery replacement prices will increase by $30. Replacement prices for ‌iPad‌ models will increase by $20. 

The increase in battery replacement pricing will force customers to purchase new Apple iPhones and will increase the sheer waste generated via manufacturing, leading to environmental issues.
