Since the iPhone 11 series, Apple has been offering ‘Pro’ and ‘non-Pro’ models of its flagship smartphones. The major differences between these models include camera, screen size and battery. However, it appears that with the upcoming iPhone 14 series, Apple will also introduce a big connectivity difference among the smartphones. As per a recent report by iDropNews, a source has revealed that the ‘Pro’ models in the iPhone 14 lineup will feature a faster USB 3.0 Lightning connector.
To recall, Apple introduced the USB 3.0 Lightning port with the first iPad Pro in 2015. However, the technology was never added to iPhones. As of now, the Apple iPhone models are based on the USB 2.0 technology which can only transfer data at 480 Mbps. For context, the USB 3.0 Lightning port is capable of delivering speeds up to 5Gbps.
Apple is expected to launch four smartphones under the iPhone 14 series this year – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. If the report is true, then the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max users will be able to enjoy faster data transfer speeds.
Earlier this week, a report by the publication also revealed that with the launch of new flagship smartphones, the tech giant may also discontinue the iPhone 11 series due to its age. The report also suggests that the move may also happen as the iPhone 11 is taking away sales from the newly launched iPhone SE 2022, also known as the iPhone SE 3. The report has also revealed that with the launch of new iPhones, the iPhone 12 series will also receive a price cut and will likely be priced at the same level iPhone 11 is currently at.
