The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the IT ministry has issued a high severity warning for Apple iPhone users. The warning is for the users who are using Apple iPhone version prior to 15.5. As per the warning, multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in iOS which can be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions and cause denial of service conditions on the targeted system.
The advisory further reveals “These vulnerabilities exists in Apple iOS and iPadOS due to use after free in AppleAVD, WebKit, libxmI2 & Kernel component; memory corruption in AppleGraphicsControl, WebKit, IOMobileFrameBuffer, IOSurfaceAccelerator, Kernel, Wi-Fi & GPU Drivers; out-of-bounds write in AVEVideoEncoder; out-of-bounds access in DriverKit; integer overflow in ImageIO; race condition in IOKit & Kernel; access issue in LaunchServices; logic issues in Safari Private Browsing & WebRTC; certificate parsing in Security; authorization issues in Shortcuts and improved checks in Wi-Fi & Notes. A remote attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a maliciously crafted web content.”
Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code, cause denial of service condition and bypass security on the targeted system. To avoid any swindling, the CERT-In wants iPhone users to update to iOS version 15.5. The mentioned version was rolled out by the tech giant earlier this week and it contains a number of fixes and improvements.
While the update doesn’t bring any major upgrades, it still has added some features to a few apps. Apple Wallet users will be able to request or send money directly through the Apple Cash Card. Earlier, they had to go to Messages to use this feature. Apple has also renamed the Apple Pay Messages app to Apple Cash Messages. Users in the European Union can now add vaccination records in the EU Digital COVID certificate format.
Apart from this, the Podcasts app is getting a new feature where users can set the limit to the number of episodes that can be stored on iPhone. It will also automatically delete the older episodes.
