Apple AR/VR headset tipped to enter mass production later this year – Times of India

Apple is rumoured to launch its first AR/VR headset in late 2022. The headset will reportedly enter mass production this fall (August/September). As per a report by DigiTimes, industry sources have revealed that the upcoming device has completed the production tests and will head into production in the coming months. “Apple’s first AR headset, mainly targeting professional vertical market applications, is expected to undergo EVT3 soon and enter volume production in August-September before hitting the market by the end of the year, the sources said.” the report reads.
Apple’s mixed reality headset is one of the most talked-about products from the company. As per analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the device will be equipped with two processors including a 4nm chip and a 5nm chip. He believed that the headset would weigh between 300 and 400 grams. He also said that the device will be able to deliver performance compared to the M1 chipsets that the company uses in the MacBooks. Other rumours suggest that the device will also be equipped with advanced sensors for environment and gesture detection.
The upcoming device is rumoured to have a three-display configuration. As per the reports, Apple will combine two Micro OLED displays and one AMOLED panel in the headset. A report by 9to5Mac suggests that we may see the device with a new operating system in 2022. The report reveals that references to the ‘realityOS’ have been found in the open source dyld repo and in the App Store upload logs. This means that the headset will have its own App Store where third-party developers can share augmented reality and virtual reality apps.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believed that SharePlay and Memojis may be central to the FaceTime experience on Apple’s mixed-reality headset. Introduced with iOS 15, the SharePlay feature gives users the ability to stream movies, TV, music and other media using FaceTime. When a user plays media, playback immediately starts for the whole group at the same time.
