Tim Cook recently completed 10 years as the CEO of Cupertino-based tech giant Apple. In this decade, Cook has managed to take the level of success of the firm to the next level. On his watch, the company’s revenue has more than doubled and its shares returned more than 1,100%, pushing the market value above $2 trillion. With each passing year, Cook gets closer to retirement and even though earlier this year, as part of an interview with NYT, Cook had said that the “date is not in sight,” he did hint that he won’t be running Apple in 10 years.
Now, that’s a long window but it’s hard to say what the plans really are about Cook’s retirement. However, there is an update on this matter from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who suggests he’s going to retire sometime between 2025 and 2028.
Gurman claims as it is believed that Cook wants to “stick around for one more major new product category.”
Gurman speculates that this upcoming product category “is likely to be augmented reality glasses rather than a car.”
Apple AR/VR headset
There has been buzz around Apple planning to enter the augmented reality segment with an AR headset. Since a while now, but the earliest that one should expect them is by 2022.
Earlier this year, reliable Apple tipster and former KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo has said that he is expecting them to launch in 2022 as these glasses will be “tricky and expensive to manufacture because of the multi-layered approach to create innovative MR/AR user experiences.”
Kuo’s latest timeframe about the alleged Apple AR glasses is in sync with a previous report by The Information and DigiTimes. Both reports in the past have suggested that Apple’s AR glasses could come by 2022.
Last year, a report by Bloomberg had claimed that Apple’s AR Glasses could function the same way as an Apple Watch which means that they would sync up with the iPhone of a user and then display “texts, emails, maps, and games over the user’s field of vision.”
The report had also alleged that the company had also considered if these glasses should have their own App Store, same as Apple Watch. However, there was no confirmation or denying on that front in the report.
