Another Star Wars Jedi Game May Be On The Way, If Job Listings Are Any Indication

A couple of job postings at Electronic Arts, publisher of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, is leading some speculation that the company is already gearing up for the third installment in the adventures of Cal Kestis.

As pointed out by Tech 4 Gamers, the job postings have recently started appearing for work on Star Wars-related projects on EA’s job recruitment website. Specifically, the postings are for a senior VFX artist, with that posting specifying that it is for “Star Wars Jedi,” and a senior combat designer. Although the second posting is less specific in its title, stating it is for “Star Wars Team”, the job posting does clarify that the applicant would be working with Respawn Entertainment, the developer of the Star Wars Jedi series, and includes a link to Respawn’s studio website, so it can be inferred that the two positions are for a similar project.

The first game in the Star Wars Jedi series, Fallen Order, came out in 2019, while its sequel, Survivor, was released just a few months ago, on April 28, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Considering the popularity of games in the series so far—Metacritic lists the PS5 version at an amalgamated critical score of 85—it wouldn’t be a surprise if EA or Respawn (whose credits also include Apex Legends and the Titanfall series) wanted to keep the ball rolling with its Jedi series.

Reactions to the news of the job postings over on the ResetEra forums was generally positive, with many declaring their love for the first two games in the series and anticipation for a third installment, although the possibility of a third Star Wars Jedi game entering development didn’t come as much of a shock to many. “Not surprising,” said one person responding to the forum post. “Jedi is Respawn’s baby, they were definitely gonna do a third part unless Survivor flopped – which it didn’t.”

Still, others were less than enthusiastic about EA and Respawn moving on to the next installment given the performance and DRM issues that have plagued the PC version of Jedi: Survivor since its release. Said one person on ResetEra, “Maybe they could spend some more time fixing the PC version before jumping into a new game. Just a thought.” Said another, “Maybe it would be more helpful to hold a publisher’s feet to the fire for a substandard product? Forgive me if I’m not doing cartwheels over a third Jedi game when the second one is still in such poor condition for PC players?”

Of course, the postings do not specifically state that a third game is on the way, and EA and Respawn could potentially be hiring for something other than a fully fledged sequel, so we’ll just have to sit tight and wait on the official news directly from the source.
