Additionally the AMD Ryzen Z1 Series processors support USB4 connectivity, with LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X memory standards. AMD claims that this combination will deliver “fast performance and low latency for more responsive gaming.”

These processors featuring the RDNA 3 architecture-based graphics, have been launched with AMD’s partnership with Asus. The ROG Ally will be the first handheld PC console to feature these Ryzen Z1 processors. Shawn Yen, product management director of Gaming Business Unit, Asus said,

“With the new Ryzen Z1 Series processors, we’re working with AMD to deliver the power, visuals and efficiency needed to enable a superior portable gaming experience — whether you’re traveling, commuting for work or simply want to game untethered.”

Given that the ROG Ally is the upcoming competitor of Valve’s own gaming handheld, here’s a comparison. With these specifications, the processors are reportedly capable of 8.6 teraflops to boost performance, where the Steam Deck is capable of 1.6 teraflops. For context, a Sony PS5’s GPU is capable of 10.28 teraflops.

Gaming with AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Series in ROG Ally

Earlier we had learnt that the ROG Ally will be supporting Windows 11. Therefore, the Ryzen Z1 Series processors are compatible with Windows 11 along with other operating systems. The latest announcement also mentioned that ROG Ally users will have access to PC games through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Roanne Sones, head of Xbox hardware said,

“With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate we’re bringing hundreds of games to new devices, including on-the-go gaming handhelds, and are excited to see AMD investing in new processors to grow this device category.”
