Sunil Mittal owned telecom company Bharti Airtel has announced recharge and talk time benefits for its 55 million “low-income customers” in India.
The company said that these benefits account for Rs 270 crore and they are being given to low-income customers to help them “stay connected during the ongoing pandemic.”
As part of the benefits, Airtel will offer a Rs 49 pack free of cost to users. This pack includes talk time of Rs 38, 100 MB of data and a validity of 28 days.
Airtel says that this will be valid for its customers mostly in rural areas to help them stay connected and get access to critical information as that is the need of the hour.
The second benefit is valid for all prepaid customers who buy the Rs 79 recharge coupon. Airtel has announced that these customers will get double the benefit for this price.
These benefits will be available to Airtel customers in the coming week, said the company.
The announcement for Airtel comes a day after Reliance Jio announced similar benefits for users of its JioPhone.
Reliance Jio had announced that JioPhone users who are unable to recharge their devices due to the ongoing pandemic will get 300 additional minutes of outgoing voice calling free per month “for the entire period of the pandemic.”
Also, the company is offering an additional recharge plan of the same value for free on its mobile plans for JioPhone. For instance, if a JioPhone user buys a Rs 75 plan recharge plan, he or she will get a Rs 75 plan free.
