Aditya Seal: I hope star system doesn’t come to web and make things lopsided again

Aditya Seal’s stint in the digital realm has fetched him a lot of praise and attention. The actor, who was seen in a meaty role in The Empire, says getting eyeballs has been his ‘toughest hurdle’.

“Getting eyeballs for me has been the toughest. I did films I was proud of earlier, like Tum Bin 2 (2016).But it didn’t get eyeballs for reasons aplenty. One being demonetisation, which happened just a week before the film released. So, the film didn’t get the attention I was expecting. I did other projects as well. It was the only obstacle for me. Thankfully, things changed with the release of Student Of The Year 2 (2019), it did manage to get people into the cinemas to watch me on it. It finally figured it out for me,” shares the 33-year-old, who will be seen next in Rocket Gang.

Clearly, his stint on the web show has also provided him with a plethora of opportunities. But with films and big stars shifting their focus to OTT, does he see the star system creeping back in and things becoming lopsided?

“I hope that doesn’t happen. I enjoy watching more content which is exciting, that is what I reserve my subscriptions for. I don’t want to watch random sh*t, be it a big star or anything. I see stuff I have never watched before, like documentaries, shows like Panchayat,” he says.

Many actors have admitted in the past that having good looks isn’t necessarily a merit in the film industry- it can work against you too. Did Seal’s appearance make it difficult for him when the web show happened?

The 33-year-old reveals, “I don’t think that has been a problem with me. Also, I am not comparing it to anybody, but I bring a specific set of skills- I can dance, I have a black belt in Taekwondo. So I don’t think it hampered things for me in any way. Getting a role of somebody who maybe belongs to a village- that would be difficult. But I have been given enough training, so that would be exciting.”
