Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid, Death Stranding, and more, has taken to Twitter to tease fans that he has finished editing what is likely to be a new trailer.
If you’re a die-hard Kojima fan, you will likely be well aware that he often edits his own trailers for upcoming releases. Although Kojima’s tweet didn’t specify what he was editing, many believe it’s likely an announcement trailer for an upcoming project.
A report from industry insider Tom Henderson previously revealed that Kojima’s next project is titled ‘Overdose’. Although many began speculating that Overdose would be a sequel to Death Stranding, Henderson’s report claims that he was sent early footage featuring Mama from Death Stranding, but that it “does not appear to be Death Stranding 2 and just features the actress who portrayed Mama, Margaret Qualley”.
Rumors also suggested that Kojima would announce his next game at Summer Games Fest 2022, but after these details were leaked, he pulled the trailer from the line-up. Now it appears that Kojima has finished editing what is likely a new trailer, and with Gamescom right around the corner, we could see it premiere later this month.
Kojima reportedly has two projects in development, with one of them being Death Stranding 2 and the other being Overdose. Norman Reedus, the star of the original Death Stranding, previously confirmed that a sequel was in development. As for Overdose, there has been no official confirmation from Kojima Productions that it even exists.
However, Kojima did confirm back at the Xbox and Bethesda 2022 showcase that he would be teaming up with Xbox Game Studios to release a brand new game. Kojima said that it is a “completely new game, one that no one has ever experienced or seen before. I’ve waited very long for the day when I could finally start to create it”. Whether or not this is the heavily rumored Overdose is currently unknown.
So, whether it’s Death Stranding 2 or Overdose, it seems as though Kojima is gearing up to release some form of announcement trailer if his latest tweet is anything to go by.
