Bethesda is tipped to celebrate the return of fans to QuakeCon with a surprise release of a popular classic. After a few years of online-only celebrations due to the pandemic, fans are once again invited to attend QuakeCon in person. The BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) celebration kicks off in Grapevine, Texas on August 10, beginning with an opening address that can be viewed online by clicking play on the video below. The ‘Welcome to QuakeCon 2023’ live stream begins at 6m BST UK time, and runs for approximately 30 minutes. It’s believed Bethesda will use the stream to unveil Quake 2 Remastered, which is tipped to launch later today.
First spotted by reliable leaker Billbil-kun, the enhanced version of Quake 2 will reportedly be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
The game will feature improved sound and visuals, as well as a modern control scheme for consoles. It will reportedly cost £7.99.
An upgraded version of the original Quake made its debut during QuakeCon 2021, so it’s not the first time Bethesda will use the event for a surprise new game release.
Speaking of the original Quake, the iconic shooter is available at a reduced price on numerous platforms, as Bethesda builds the hype for this year’s QuakeCon.
Other Bethesda games are also on sale during the event, such as Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Doom Eternal and Deathloop.
As for QuakeCon 2023, the live stream schedule features a host of interesting broadcasts hosted by Bethesda.
The schedule – which can be seen above – includes a special QuakeCon quiz, a cooking stream, and high score competition.
“It’s hard to believe that the last time we all met for the BYOC was in 2019,” Bethesda explains.
“But now we’re back in person and ready for the world’s biggest LAN party to continue! The QuakeCon 2023 BYOC officially opens on Thursday, August 10, at 8:00am CDT.”
