Gunfire Games made sure to add a bunch of hidden secrets to Remnant 2, many of which can only be found if you purposely look for them. These secrets include keys, codes, and more. Sometimes, they are hidden in a place that you wouldn’t even think to look.
This is the case for the combination of the chest in Ford’s room. When you walk into the room, there will be a chest to your right that you will notice is locked and needs a 4-digit code. The funny thing is, this code is closer than you think.
Chest Location
When you first meet Ford, he is in Ward 13 in a room above the garage where you’ll meet Ava McCabe and Don “Rigs” Rigler, who you can upgrade weapons with. Head up the stairs to the left of the garage near the checkpoint stone. From here, take your immediate right, then pass through the room that Bo is in.
Go up the stairs and slightly to your right will be a hallway. In this hallway, you’ll want to go into the first room on your left. Upon entering this room, you’ll notice the chest in the corner on your right. From the stairs you came up you could always just run straight, take a right, then a left to reach the room; but it’s always good to check in with Bo.
Ford’s Chest
It’s obvious the chest in Ford’s room is important. Not only is the glow from inside seeping out the cracks of the top of the chest, but it’s also locked. Most of the chests you will encounter in the game won’t be locked. Unfortunately, you’re going to have to wait a little bit before unlocking it as you have a mission to complete with Ford first; which he already gave you a few steps to complete prior to starting the mission with him.
Quest Prior To Opening Chest
When you first approach the chest, you’ll notice you’ll need a 4-digit code to open it. Across the way, past the shooting range will be a hill that you can run down which is where you will meet Ford who will be sitting on a chair outside a warehouse-looking door.
Go talk with him after completing the tasks he told you to complete. Once you finish exploring with him, you can use the checkpoint to travel back to Ward 13. Upon returning for the first time, you will have a cut scene with Bo.
Hidden Combination
Once you are done with Bo’s cut scene, head to the chest in Ford’s room above the garage. Once in front of it, open your inventory. Inspect the flashlight that Ford gave to you. When you hit inspect, you are allowed to rotate items. Rotate the flashlight to look at the bottom.
You’ll notice some numbers etched on it, though it may be upside down. This combination should be 0415. Considering the combination was on the item he gave you, it’s obvious he wanted you to discover it. Upon putting this combination into the chest, it will open to reveal the reward.
Ford’s Chest Reward
The reward for opening the chest will be a key. This isn’t just any key, however. It’s the Cargo Control Key that you can actually use right there in Ward 13. It’s clear Ford left you a gift before disappearing and knew he would be gone fairly soon. One couldn’t help but wonder if he will actually come back or if he knew he would be gone forever.
While there will be quite a few chests or safes that have a hidden combination, such as the Losomn Asylum Safe you’ll find later in the game, the good thing about this one is it’s at the very beginning of the game to give you a taste of how you’ll find future combinations.
Where To Use Cargo Control Key
Once you have the key, head towards the top of the hill, above where you met Ford for the first mission. From there, veer to your right and head into the gated area to the cargo containers. Keep going straight, then veer to your right then to your left and head down a small hill.
Keep going until you come to a green-rusted door. Your character will try to pull on the door at first, noticing that it is locked. You will then be prompted to use an item from your inventory. Select the cargo key then your character will use it to unlock and open the door.
Cargo Room Reward
Once the door is open, inspecting the room you’ll notice something with a purple glow on it located on the desk to the left of the room. When you interact with it, you will pick up a new handgun, the MP60-R. To equip it, go to your inventory, select character, then click on the handgun you have already.
It will have a bigger magazine size and already do more damage than the Tech 22. The damage is 9, RPS 14.2, and the magazine size is 42. While it could definitely do some damage as is, once you upgrade the weapon with mods it will definitely do some serious damage to enemies compared to your other handguns.
