CD Projekt RED Confirms Development of the Next Witcher Game With 220 Employees and Growing

CD Projekt RED currently has a slew of projects in development, as it expands upon the Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher franchise.

When it comes to the former, the Polish studio is working on the Phantom Liberty DLC, which will be showcased at Summer Game Fest next month. With The Witcher franchise, fans are excited about the next project in the series, which will be built on Unreal Engine 5.

Codenamed Polaris, the upcoming CD Projekt RED game will be the start of a new trilogy for The Witcher.

Not much is known about the game’s plot and settings. However, at the recent Q1 2023 earnings call, CD Projekt RED revealed some details about the game’s development.

During the earnings conference, CD Projekt RED showcased the number of people working on each of its projects over the last two years. For the most part, most of CD Projekt RED employees worked on the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC. However, during this time, the team behind The Witcher 4: Polaris has grown as well.

As of April 30, 2023, over 320 people are working on the final developmental phase of the Phantom Liberty DLC. The Polaris team, on the other hand, has 220 employees, with the number growing in the future.

In the coming years, CD Projekt RED will put in more resources for The Witcher 4, as the Polish studio shifts its focus from Cyberpunk 2077. With the number of devs growing, it seems like CD Projekt RED is keeping up with its assurance of avoiding crunch with its employees for The Witcher 4.
