Final Fantasy XVI is not going to get any DLCs, according to the game’s producer.
Director Hiroshi Takai and producer Naoki Yoshida spoke to Game Informer in a recent interview about their upcoming game. It was conveyed here that Final Fantasy XVI is a single-player game, which is different than developing MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV. In MMORPGs, DLCs, expansions and additional quests come more naturally to the game. But when it comes to Final Fantasy XVI, as per current plans, protagonist Clive Rosfield’s story is meant to wrap up in this game. As a result, developers Creative Business Unit III have no plans for DLCs with the game.
Producer Naoki Yoshida said:
“We have no idea if people are going to fall in love with Valisthea and fall in love with Clive’s story and want to see more of the world and more of its characters. So while we always want to consider DLC or spinoffs or those types of things where you can learn more about the game, first we want to see if Valisthea and Clive are really things players around the world want to see more of and then make that decision.”
He also explains that Final Fantasy XVI is a “one-off game,” and that they are asking for players to pay the full price for the experience. “We want them to have satisfaction equal to what they paid or even more than that,” he added.
Having said that, both Yoshida, Takai and the team of Creative Business Unit III have described Valisthea as “vast.” As a result, there might be a scope for the team to return to the world, and spin some new stories in it. Game Informer’s Wesley Leblanc writes:
“I get the sense if the demand is there, CBUIII is ready on a moment’s notice to return, perhaps through DLC or, harkening back to its MMO expertise, an expansion. At this point, considering recent entries like Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake did receive DLC, it’d be unusual to see FFXVI not receive any.”
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XVI is a PlayStation 5 exclusive and will launch on June 22nd, 2023.
